What would you pay???

I know opinions will vary widely but I've found what appears to be a very clean, unmolested '93 LX Coupe 4 cylinder car. I've only seen photos...it's in another state...but the seller says there in no rust, no dents, no dings, no tears and is a solid runner. Needs nothing...everything works (power windows, power locks, a/c, etc).

The car will eventually be an engine swap project for me but for now, it'll just be a driver.

I can get the car for $2500. I'm interested in it mostly because it's never been abused, chopped, beat-on, etc and it has a very straight, rust free body and clean interior.

Seems like there are lots of "rollers" out there that look like they've been beaten to hell and back asking anywhere from $1500 to $2000 or more. This car is virgin.

Worth $2500???

TIA.

there is a red 92 notch 4 cyl in minneapolis that has been around for a year or two.
it has like 58k red with grey interior thats mint. I think he is always asking 2800. just for referance.

i dont think thats what he is saying. he was just giving you a reference, i say 2500 for a clean notch that is going to eventually be turned into a 5.0 coupe, but currently get daily driven at damn near 30mpg. do it. especially if there is no mechanical malfunctions or noticeable body damage. you get the style that you want, and can save on fuel while your saving up for your Dart 347 and TKO 600 with supporting suspension and breaking mods.

Makes sense. Thanks for your input.

I daily drove a 2.3 fox for 3 years. WASTE OF TIME!!!!

They have all the mechanical and electrical problems the 5.0's do, especially the 91-93's that had the DIS(distributorless ignition system). Gas mileage is just downright sorry. I averaged 17-18 in town and then 25-27 on the highway depending on driving conditions. This is what a stock 5.0 is getting. Performance is sub par. You will find yourself praying that when you merge into oncoming traffic that there is either a big hole or the other guy has really good brakes. Speaking of brakes, the 4 cyl cars have the same brakes that the pre-87 cars did which are a joke. More than once I found myself suddenly downshifting and and applying the emergency brake as well as the foot brake all at the same time to avoid a car that cuts me off or someone that suddenly stops in front of you. If you are using the car as a platform for an engine swap, unless you have everything, and I mean everything like there is a totaled donor car in you back yard, you are better off buying a 5.0 straight out.

IF you need a cheap daily that will get great mileage look for any of the normal econo boxes from the late 90's and up. Escorts, Civics, cavaliers, all of them will cost the same 25-2800 you are looking at for the fox, will get better mileage, are safer vehicles, and will allow you to save money for a 5.0 down the road.

Thanks...I don't mean to offend the purists here but I plan to do a LSx swap, so starting with a factory 5.0 car doesn't give me much of an advantage. I'd prefer to start with the 4 cylinder car because it hasn't been thrashed.

I also plan to upgrade the brakes during the swap, so that's not too much of a concern.

It'll only be a daily driver until I'm in a position to start the swap. I'm looking for a house so I'll get going once I have a garage.

I am not a purist and I dont see anything wrong with an LSx swap, I would just look for something cheaper. Offer the guy 1500 if he takes it great, if not dont offer any more money. Clean 4 bangers can be found for a lot less.

Thanks...I'm not going to get this one that cheap. I'm trying to get a friend to take a look at the car for me.

If it's as clean as the seller claims, I'll take it from there.

I agree on the daily driver thing. Mine only saw in the middle 20 mpgs. Even being a 4cyl it still weighs a good amount. They are severly underpowered, and the rest is typical fox mustang stuff.

$2500 seems like a bit for a base point, but if it is what you want, and you planned to spend that on a roller, it might be worth it.

I was going to jump into this thread and commend you a job well done on such a bad ass screen name, and then I read this statement. Consider me offended. :(
Like my mother always said...to each, their own.

I think I'm going to take a step back from the ledge and hold off on buying the car for now. I really need to focus on getting a house and getting the garage squared away before I move forward with a project car.

I was feeling a bit impulsive when I saw the pics of the car. I've seen so many with interiors that look like they've been under water and hacked-up bodies that look like they've been used on a figure-eight track...I just got a bit excited.

The right car will be out there when I'm truly ready to move forward.

Thanks for the feedback!

Just for reference I bought a clean all factory 1988 AOD 5.0 coupe 120k miles for $2,100a few months ago. Gets 25 -27 mpg. Like stated above the seats on a 4 cylinder car is a joke and the 7.5 rearend and brakes are not much better. Wouldnt pay over 1500 bucks for the car. In NC the 4 cylinder cars are in the 1000-1500 range.
