what year is my mass air harness from?

Im ready for heads and cam on my 87 lx and im the doing mass air conversion. Is it true that a 1989 harness will plug in with no problems and 1990-1993 harness car wont start? Does 1989 harness require any modification or is it plug and go? I have all the parts including a complete harness but im not sure what year its from. Is there any way visually tell the difference between the harness from 89 and 90-93? I didnt see any part numbers on the harness. thanks

The conversion harness seems to work well for most folks. It avoids the compatibility problems in using a harness from the junkyard. Simple and cheap, actually less work that swapping the wiring harness.

If the idea of moving & soldering wires scares you, here's a list of compatible Mass Air wiring harnesses.
Copied From bbunt302

Just for reference, here's a list of all the compatible years:

89 harness should work for 86-89 as long as you're using mass air. it is plug and go.

90 harness will only work in a 90. (B/c of air bags and dual dash connectors)
91 through early 92 harnesses should be compatible (single dash connector, fuel pump relay under driver's seat)
Late 92 through 93 harnesses should be compatible (single dash connector, fuel pump relay under the hood)

Computers from 89-92 are all the same. Look for the A9L sticker on the back cover for a 5 speed that matches your requirements. Example: E9ZF 12A650 AA" with the A9L code.

Anyway to tell what year a harness is from by looking at it? Thanks for the info.

DUH! Turn your thinker on:

89 harness should work for 86-89 as long as you're using mass air. Looks like the 86-88 harness except for the mass air meter connector .

90 harness will only work in a 90. (B/c of air bags and dual dash connectors), Notice it has airbag connectors

91 through early 92 harnesses should be compatible (single dash connector, fuel pump relay under driver's seat)
Same appearance as the 89 except the fuel pump wiring colors are different.

Late 92 through 93 harnesses should be compatible (single dash connector, fuel pump relay under the hood) Notice the fuel pump relay is under the hood.

My thinkers on wisea*s jrich:Zip2:. Soldering doesnt scare me either have harness no car its in body shop cant compare. Also the fuel pump relay isnt hooked to the main harness DUH. I know all about your simple add on wire kit i have harness and wanna use it. Thanks for the help

I wish you well. There aren't many people who will even attempt to diagnose an computer or electrical problem on Stangnet. Maybe one of that small, select group will step forward and offer to help.

I dont have any electrical problems to diagnose. Guy emailed me pics 91-93 had one round connector near brake booster under hood on main harness. 89-90 had two round connectors near brake booster one gray one black. So the harness i had had two connectors so it must be 89 or 90. Then you said a 90 had 2 dash connectors. The harness i have has one dash connector so the one i have must be a 89. Thanks for everyones help
