i currently have bbk 1 5/8 shorties a bbk 2 1/2 x pipe with high flow cats and and 3 chamber flowmasters. i want to keep the mufflers but i think that the others are restricting me especially the cats. should i go bigger on the headers as well. the car has no egr so will 79-93 style headers fit?

at this point, the 3 chambers are most definitely your most restrictive part.. Flowmasters don't flow ****... Unless you changed catbacks, I don't think you would really gain anything by changing headers..

1 3/4 LT's and a offroad h/x would help a good bit.

Agreed, I would step up to the Mac 1 3/4 headers with an offroad intermediary. You are really going to have to get away from the Flowbastards to free up the exhaust though. If you go to a straight through muffler vs a chambered one, you are going to free up some HP.

The best setups in my opinion are the UltraFlow SS setup and the Magnaflow setup. The UltraFlow SS catback is $349 on Jegs and Summit. They are nice and quiet when you aren't getting on it. When you get on it, it's a bit loud though. I don't think anything is going to fix that on a Mustang. None of that 2100 rpm drone that drives you crazy on the highway though. Just did one on a Cobra with longtubes, and it sounds really good.
