What's going on? Missing parts? Gear help!

I don't believe that's rust. Mine looked the same way. Had 'em in for about a year now with no problems. Where'd the other guy buy them from? Should have come with a new one. :shrug:
 
The orange thing is your new pinion nut and it should come with all motor sport gears. t is orange from thread lock and sealant. The plastic bag is the pinion shims, and the brown paper should have a crush sleeve inside of it. I hope you fellas know what your doing with those parts...
 
If I recall correctly Ford changed what would be included in a gear set for the 04 FRPP catalog. a ring and pinion gear set no longer includes shims and something else, but I can't remember what. :scratch: Maybe its was the pinion nut or the crush sleeve, but I don't remember at all. Anyhow, another cost-saving move by Ford.
 
Guys if you don't know what the orange thingy is (p-nut) its orange because its coat with thread locker. I've never seen FRPP gears come with shims before, mine just came with the pinion nut and crush collar, but I bought the ratech kit anyway w/bears and such and a load of shims. Guys if you are doing your own rears becareful because if your asking questions like "whats the orange thing?" just make sure you get some help with it then. It's def. not an easy job!
 
Yeah, that is the pinion nut with thread locker. I just received my set of 4.10's last week from GEF. They came with the nut and shims, but no crush colar. I bought the Superior Axle install kit that comes with all new stuff including ring gear bolts. It is a great deal, and you can get it from Summit Racing for $78. That beats all the other kits hands down, and the bearings are Timken.
