whats it take to hit 13s??

foxfan i wouldn't hit the track for at least a few months after getting used to the car, ive had ine for almost a year and im hoping to make it to irwindale or pomona by the end of the year, hoping for mid 14's, if im lucky

if you try and race it very soon i doubt you'll have better times than before your rebuilds


and another thing... very soon after putting all those new parts in, i would definitely look into getting a GT-40 intake, because a B-cam with 1.7's is gonna be way too much lift for your stock intake and heads. youll definitely be surprised as opposed to your last setup but you're not getting that new engine to its full potential at all.


another thing.... please break the engine in before you try and see how fast she is. nobody wants to hear about you throwing a rod because you just wanted to see how fast it was on 107 miles. (i dont really know what would happen i just pulled that incident out of my ass but eh)

well with the rebuild im sure he will get it running right and tuned properly

A 5 speed car should be able to run 13's with traction and driving.

An aod will take something additional. A converter is the most direct approach.

Spray will do it for both.

Traction, at least Drag Radials, ET Streets, or better, is essential.

Almost nothing. A very stock car on tire could probably crack the high 13's.

I would swap those 1.7's for some 1.6's because you want the cam to do the lifting not the rockers. But if you want to really move put a 373 gear in that thing.

if u can drive good u should be able to with the mods u will have after the rear.... if u get some good traction. id say full exhaust, sub frames, short throw, street slicks, and a good driver are good for low 14s. since u got a b cam, no a/c or smog pump, rockers, and gears u should be 13.7s if u get some good 60 foots and shifts. traction is the key... when i ran a 14.8 i had the same mph than my friends did when he was runnin 14.1s in his camaro.... i was gettin 2.3s for my 60 foot tho.... i was 96mph. subframes and slicks will put a stock 5.0 into the mid 14s without a problem. thats my .02

sounds like your local to me

irwindale is 1/8th mile

pomona has been closed to open street drags for years now

fontana has a 1/4 track, but you'll never get more than one run in, maybe two in a 6+ hour stretch, thanks to all the 17 second ricers in so cal

palmdale is the best bet. Its a 100 mile trip, and the track slows you down from elevation by about a half second, but you can literally hot lap it, there are so few cars there.

btw, lot of internet racers here. While I agree it's easy to get a stock headed, stock cammed mustang into the 13's (hell, one of my good friends was pegging mid to low 13's in a 200+K mile 89 vert) However, you've got to be good, REAL good. I hate to say it, but most 5 speed bone stock stangs with your average new driver will never see 14's, and that's the plain truth. I watch stang after stang after stang run low 15's. LOTS of practice, slicks, and really knowing how to drive your car will get it into the 14's, and your basic mods can get you to the 13's, however, I used to think it was as easy as bolt on 1,2,3...13's. Bull****. my old engine never saw 14's. My new one won't have an issue at all with that though.

I don't know, I've seen quite a few stock or almost stock mustangs with slicks run into the 13's @ LACR (Palmdale). I live pretty close so I go pretty often....just not lately.

part of it, no doubt is my fusteration. My tired old vert ran a 15.3 stock before I abused the engine. Years later with 3.73 gearing and control arms, exhaust, and other useless mods AND drag radials netted me an "adjusted" 15.3.

then my bro ran in his healthy bone stock (to the silencer) 88 notch, but with drag radials and an aod to t5 conversion, and managed about what was an adjusted 14.9-15.0 flat. It wasn't easy. On the way up to palmday, we played tag with a 350z and a g35 coupe and held even, so most of it, I'm sure was the driving.

However, another buddy has thrown the so called bolt on book at his carb'd but HO roller motor 84 hatch, and ran an adjusted 14.3 there, and he knows his ****. I think, part of it, is that is a tough track.

To tell you the truth, I'm really worried about taking my fresh gt40p motor with full bolt on's out and barely pulling a high 14. That'll be discouraging at all. I've got to start somewhere though. (wish I had more practice behind the wheel at legal drag racing)

my old notch went 13.20's w/ 5-speed 4.10's and et streets

I got my GT to do a 13.80 with exhaust, ported intake, 70mm tb and bumped timing on bfg drag radials (255's). Had a 1.89 60' . It really just takes sticky tires and a halfway decent driver.
