What's more streetable, Heads & Cam or SC?

I know a lot of H/C/I guys without a chip. You can get by without one. That's not to say that you'll be running optimally, but as long as you get a cam that'll idle with the stock EEC you can get by without a chip. There is a guy on Corral making 312rwhp with AFR 165's + an XE270HR cam and he's still running the stock Cobra computer.

I've heard people say that blowers are more streetable, because the car "drives like stock until you step on it." I guess that's true, but a nicely tuned H/C/I can be very streetable as long as you don't get too wild with the cam.

Im running the stock computer with H/I and a blower. My car runs perfectly. Starts after a couple cranks every time, never stalls, never surges, and always pulls hard to redline. It actually runs better now than when it was bone stock. When it was bone stock it had some hot restart problems.

A cam is the main thing that can affect your driveability. These cars hate cams with a lot of duration or a low numerical lobe separation, such as a 110.

Good info guys. Is a Steeda #19 a good choice for the street? I hear that it's almost identical to the Crane 2031. Is there much difference between the two? Also, should you get new valve springs with a new cam?

I personally feel the H/C/I is more streetable in everyday driving. Temperature, quality of fuel, etc all can greatly effect a blown car which can experience detonation and such. I guess the same can be said about a H/C/I car, but you are a lot less likely to do any real damage with a H/C/I car.

I say do the blower, because it doesnt look like youwill ru a heads cam setup that will make anywhere near the power a simple blower slapped on your car will.

if I woudl you, I would get an intake and do a fox body TB swap. and the blower with injectors and have fun. 10 pounds :nice:

long tubes and full exhaust as well.

you will destroy most heads cam cars

you can make the same power with a decent h/c/i setup as you can with a mild blower. anywhere from 290 to 340 or so rwhp can be had with either, depending on the setup and the h/c/i can be done for half the price. my feeling is do the h/c/i first, then do the blower. i'm running nitrous with my h/c/i on a stock a9L computer, but i want to step up to a pms unit so i have total control over what my engine is doing.
as far as supercharging an otherwise stock 5.0, you're not going to be settng the world on fire. the intake and heads are a big bottleneck. personally, i just wouldn't be happy with running mid to high 12's with a blower. now running mid to high 12's on motor is a different story in our cars. the first time you get beat by a bolt on ls1 f-body in a stock motored blown 5.0, i guarantee you'll feel like you wasted your money.

Yep. If you do the S/C first and then decide to do H/C/I, you'll not only have to rip off the top end of the motor but the blower as well. Plus, I'd rather go ahead and put the heads & cam in and sort out any drivability problems that may arise (depending on how wild you get with the cam). Aluminum heads and a Steeda #19 would be a good bet if you wanted a smooth idle and good power.

Exactly.

Shaun, you still got the stock cam...I never noticed that in your sig.

Nice #'s !!!

I need you to move down to S. FL.

Youre a good example of someone on here that knows how to do stuff, and I rarely see you with problems.

Nice job! :nice:

RC

Hey thanks a lot!! I think a lot of my good experiences come from having a simple combo and just pure luck. I have had some problems with part failures, but I have been very fortunate.

When I make it to Florida hopefully I can meet up with some of you. If not, maybe I will pull you over sometime or another....hahah j/k :rlaugh:
