Ite guys, I think my 5.0 has bit the bullet, I have no money unless some one wants to donate me an engine LOL. I need to know what is the cheapest someone has ever built a 5.0, or a stock rebuild, and it last. I need to have this thing last another year until I drop a forged 331 in it. I would rather not buy a used shortblock, Id just rather bulid one, for cheap LOL.

Thanks josh

Hands down you can't beat an Explorer motor. You can typically find them as low as 600 bucks, and you gain some really decent heads in the process. If your car is carbed just take everything from your old motor and swap it to the Explorer long block and you're set. If your engine is bone stock now you'll be gaining some power at the same time. You might be able to rebuild for cheaper if you only do rings and bearings, but for my money i look at gaining something for all the work.

Just noticed your sig...since you've got some mods you'll benefit even more from the Explorer motor. If you can't come up with that kind of cash, you can still rebuild for pretty cheap.

that is a good idear (big paulie). If I could find an engine of of one that would be good, would there be power gains from the gt40's compared to the heads that are now on my car, they are ported e7's the previous owner said that there isnt any more metal to be ported out of them, they have a 3 angle valve job and all that stuff on them.
what if I ported those heads?(gt40's) I could prolly get more power out of those than the e7's so that would be good!!! The exploders have mexican blocks right?

Thanks 85 ss 302 coupe.

If your gonna go the eplorer route, you'll want to read this thread:http://www.corral.net/forums/showthread.php?t=732111
In post# 6, a guy does a pretty complete write up of what to look for, what you will need to swap from your old motor, etc. lots of good info.good luck.

If the valves in the E7s are stock then all the porting in the world will only get you so much...you basically still have to bottle neck the air through the valve openings. The GT40Ps will definately flow more. Do a search for these heads and see what you can find. You might have to get different headers since the GT40Ps use a different spark plug angle, which makes it near impossible to remove the plugs once headers are on (most people use either Mac full length headers because they clear the plugs, or Ford makes shorty headers that work for them, just to make a couple). If you port the Gt40Ps you'll gain even more, but a lot of people see it as a waste of money since you eventually get around the 1k mark depending on how much porting you do, and for that price you can get decent aluminum heads.
