This web site says its burlap?!?!

http://www.mustangmonthly.com/howto/173_0306_wind/

Can it be purchases somewhere?

Is it hard to replace?

Apparently it was only 65-66 models that have it.

I've never seen that in any catlogues. Maybe a glass shop would have some of the material.

Thanks for the reply.

Thats the first thing I did was look through the popular vendors' pages of
"door" and "window" searches, 'cause I don't know what ya call it.

I was thinking of just take the track with me to a fabric place here in town that stocks a crap load of auto type stuff and see if they have any.

Any one ever replaced this material or heard of it?

I had a heck of a time finding it. Tried all the Mustang parts vendors, paint/body supply shops, glass shops, etc. I finally found it at a vintage FOrd truck supply shop. It is called "Bulk glass tape"

EDIT - Nevermind. I was thinking it was something else (pic didn't load the first time). Isn't the stuff in the pic called moleskin? I got mine from NPD

I never found it for my '66. I just went to my upholsterer and had him pick some "stuff" that would work. It is a bit softer than the original but he says he has used it before and has worked good. It looks like a soft but heavy burlap but it is not burlap. He installed it and it is doing dreat.

Thanks for the replies.

We have a place called Texas Fabric and Foam. I'm sure they can hook me up.

I just like to get all the stuff together BEFORE I go tearing into a project.

Sometimes ya have to wait 'til you have part in hand to get what ya need.

I bought the material today for the window track. They didn't have the exact type stuff, so I got 2" wide velcro... just the loop part, not the hook part. I scraped all the old crap out, what was left of it that is...

Then glued in the velcro. I'll post pics later when I get it together and see how it works.

I also took a lot of good pics of the latch, rods, and my new fabricated electric lock motor modification.

i thought moleskin was what they used on the window channels to keep the glass from rattle around when the window is up/down and to keep water/crap out of the inside of the door.

I just got that very same window felt kit as part of my door fix project. But they only go along the sides of the window where it enters/exits the door.

The product "Mastic" was used in window channels since the 1920's - 1960's. You can usually find it at a good Automotive Glass company (Safelite). It comes in different thickness and you want it tight that you can not push the track onto the glass but that you need a rubber/plastic mallet to install.

I was talking about the window track not the stainless piece that wraps around the window.

Anyway I got a couple pics of the latch fix and rod configuration.

Here is the lock motor I modified to fit from a 82 Thunderbird. I used an existing hole in the lock lever.

I started to put the door and hinges back on, but it looks like the only way to get it aligned right is to take the fender off.

Holy crap! That is the best pic I've ever seen of how the latches work. I printed out for my "How the hell does that work" file.Do you know if 67 is the same or if there were changes made?

Yeah, I've got a old Sony DSC-S50 with the flip-out viewer that you only see on camcorders anymore. I also had my twin 13w flourescent drop light in the door. I figured I was only gonna get a pic like that once, so it should be a good one.

I'm sure the latch assembly is different, but the operation is the same, I would think.

Very nice pictures indeed. I have a question for ya though, how are the rods attached where I have circled them in your picture.

As of now i have to crawl through my passenger side door to get in my car because the rod that goes from the outside pushbutton to the red circle in the picture falls out of its place when I shut the door. I cant seem to figure out how it stays in there.

here is one source:

http://www.mustangsunlimited.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=F1306+01

If you look at the last pic I just posted, it shows the tip of the bushing has a cut out just for the rod.

Yours proly got old.

Mine was missing and a PO bent the rod in a U through both.

It allowed the door to be opened even when locked.

Glad I could help. When I asked the vendor though email, they sugested I buy a manual.

The manual show NOWHERE near the detail the picture I took.
