I normally talk over in the v6 forum since i own a 96 3.8. But i have found a wrecked 95 5.0 with 120k on it. I can get the complete engine, wiring harness, and computer for $950. What do you guys think, is this high, should i just wait and get another engine that has been rebuilt.

thanks for your time

Too much money http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7911320596&category=33615. Thats just a crappy example, but you can do better if you are patient. Good luck. BTW Im no expert or anything however I think thats too much money to spend for a 5.0 with 120K on it.

i would reference prices from www.stangparts.com - Mustang Parts Specialties, INC. i know they offer a wide variety of engines/computers/etc, so that would be a good place to start. they are a great company to deal with, i'd highly recommend them if you don't go with your 120k motor. even if you rebuild, PAW (performance auto warehouse) has really reasonably priced rebuild kits. good luck, and convert to the 5.0, you won't regret it!!!!!!!!!

maybe its just me...but with all the stuff that will need to be upgraded, and then the time money and effort that goes into the swap itself, it may be a better idea to just try and find a 94-95 GT....but maybe thats just my thinking...

In a 96, if you are really wanting to do a swap, you'd be better served to do a 96+ 4.6 swap. Your gonna have your hands full with just the wiring alone if you try to drop a 5.0 in there.

not to mention swapping that motor into a 96+ car is illegal because 94-95 cars are OBD I while 96+ are OBDII...

What planet are you from? Show me where the federal government says you cant do that. What if he wanted to put a carb on a motor. If he buys an 50 states legal carb, he is NOT breaking any laws. Maybe your New York laws are different. Around here it is LEGAL.

you cant swap down when it comes to emmissions...if the car came equipped from the factory with OBDII then you cant go lower than that or it will fail an inspection, a real inspection anways....and no if he went carb, even if its 50 state legal its still no good...it would be 50 state legal for an older car....but i know not for an OBD II car...not sure about OBD I or OBD 0....

Yeah some of our states emmissions laws are quite as laxed as Ohio. Or we would all have long tubes and o/r h-pipes. Round here they wont even touch your cats if you have OBD II.

we can go federal on this if you want....this is just from a google search...direct off the EPA site about the CAA (clean air act)

Sec. 203. (a) The following acts and the causing thereof are
prohibited-....

(3)(A) for any person to remove or render inoperative any
device or element of design installed on or in a motor
vehicle or motor vehicle engine in compliance with regula-
tions under this title prior to its sale and delivery to the
ultimate purchaser, or for any person knowingly to remove or
render inoperative any such device or element of design
after such sale and delivery to the ultimate purchaser; or

(B) for any person to manufacture or sell, or offer to
sell, or install, any part or component intended for use
with, or as part of, any motor vehicle or motor vehicle
engine, where a principal effect of the part or component is
to bypass, defeat, or render inoperative any device or
element of design installed on or in a motor vehicle or
motor vehicle engine in compliance with regulations under
this title, and where the person knows or should know that
such part or component is being offered for sale or
installed for such use or put to such use;

so...installing something on a car that does not meet the standards for that model year is illegal..FEDERALLY...no matter the state....im sure i could dig further into this if you want....
