I have an 86 coupe with the baer track kit all the way around. This car is a dedicated roadrace car and I'm building it up to compete in races such as the Silver State Classic. I need to select wheels and tires. I feel that the Cobra R 17x9's would be a good choice with 245/45 17 up front and 275/45 17 in the rear. Will I have ANY clearance/rubbing problems with this combo. I cannot afford to EVER rub the tires on anything but pavement....blowouts at 150 suck...death, bad very bad.

Do these replica wheels on ebay and such have the same strength as the FMS wheels....are they reliable?

So any help and advice for a good setup that will enable me to run the widest tire without rubbing, me appreciate mucho.

Take a look at Maximum Motorsports. They have a nice lightweight 18x8.5 wheel that would work very well on what you describe. Inexpensive and strong. Made by Konig.
