wheel bearings

how do u know when u have a bad wheel bearing. something is squeaking on the front driver side tire. the shop told me a wheel bearing. the noise goes away when i start to stop at a light or something or slow down

you will know when you hear crunching sounds and you will also feel it. bearings cost me about $60 at autozone.

yeah sounds more like a squeaking noise only does it will i drive but when i apply the breaks it stops

If your running the 87-93 stock style spindle a bearing is $12 and takes about 20 min. to change. If you are running 94-95 spindles its about $80.

Check your front u-joint as well. Sometimes they squeak as they go bad and the origin or the squeak is hard to narrow down due to it only squeaking while moving.

jack the car up and spin the wheel on the side that the noise its coming from, if its a bearing, you'll hear the squeak (if its squeaking) or if you stick your head next to the wheel as your spinning it'll sound like gravel.

Take the car out for a drive and swerve back and forth, it should go away with a load on it (or make the noise with a load on it, I don't remember).
