Ok,
I have the original Saleen wheels that are 18x9 (265 35 18) up front and 18x10 (295 30 18) in the rear.

I held up a 17x10.5 with 315 35 17 on it and it was almost 2 inches wider!!!!

My question is...
What size tire do I need on my 18 rears to get close to the 17s width?

Does the 10" width vs the 10.5 make that much difference?

I'm pretty sure you can run a 305 series tire on a 10" rim

Drag radial or street radial? That will make a difference. Also, what kind of tires were they?

You can do a 305 on a 10" rim and you can even do a 315/30, it will just bubble out a little.

a 305 Mickey will be about as wide as a 315 Nitto because Nitto is more of a squared off tire while Mickeys are rounded.

I just switched from 315 Nitto 555Rs to Sumitumo 315s and the Sumis look considerably wider.

Are you kidding me. I have the same saleen wheels as you do and in the rear im running 315/30/18. Time to upgrade! the difference between a 10 inch rim and 10.5 inch rim is only half an inch, 12.2 mm. Im kind of confused where you got 2 inches bigger. Try the new Falkens Azenis. Work wonders. Still is sticker than the Nitto and i have 10K on the tires and still have half tread left! Good luck!

Thanks fellas,
No ...Im saying , it looks like 2 inches wider. We put on a set of the 17s in drag radials vs my 18 inch bfg kdw's and they were alot wider.
I have a set of 15 inch welds with hoosier slicks for the race track so Im just talking street tire now.

Well, it looks like I will fit on some 315s next go round then.
