Sorry if this has been covered but is it just me or is there something wrong with the look of the tires? Every pick that I have seen seems to have this problem and is very visually unappealing.

For some reason the tires seem really tall and much to skinny for the vehicle.

They look like truck tires on a sports car.

Your right!!!

They are taller and more narrow 235/50/17. I agree,Not the choice I would of made!!!I plan to switch out asap

I'm sure most people looking for performance will change that fairly soon, or wait for more options to come out!

I started this exact same thread sometime back, and I totally agree with you. This is a complete joke to me. I have gotten over the IRS fiasco, but this really sucks IMHO. Since 1993 ford has had the 245/45/17 option. Even one year on the 94 cobras, ford used 255's for a while, but they stopped that quickly. This new car is supposed to have a major handling advantage over any stang that has ever had a live axle. But i can see it now in all the magazine reviews; " excessive body roll" , "not enough tire for the power" , "weak skidpad road holding ability" , "Too much wheel spin at launch" , etc... . All the mags are gonna be like WTF is up with ford and then all the car and driver/motortrend/roadandtrack haters will whine and bitch.

Unless ford knows something about how to make a wider car, with more power handle better on smaller, sh****r, ALL SEASON tires, this car is in for some seriously bad reviews. Which to me is very sad, because this car could have some serious stock potential. I COULD BE WRONG, but i just see this as more bull**** ford cost cutting.

A 55 series profile? That is a total joke. That is a huge difference from what we have now.

I wonder why with this car they had to use that profile with the 17". The only way to get match the tire diameter (move up to the 45 profile) is to go to 18's.

I would love to get an explanation from Ford on this.

The part that gets me is that you see the cars at the autoshows and the concept (I know that most concepts have oversized wheels, but still...) is that a lot of the 05's had the 18's on them. I do realize they will come out eventually, but I think they should be available from the get-go.

They gave us more power, more cornering ability...and LESS tire? I think my father's Intrepid has better tires than these.

It doesn't really make a lot of sense.

I can't wait to see my Bullitt wheels with luxo-cruiser tires on it.

The V6 Mustang gets 215/65R16. 65 seires tires DON'T belong on a sports coupe.

Yeah...sorry guys...didn't know this was covered elsewhere. I just don't get it though.

I mean the car needs like 295 50's in the back. This wwill be the first thing I swap out using after market stuff. Also a lowering kit to get the car to actually ride like a sports car.

I just looked at a Nissan truck a few minutes ago and sure enough they had 265's

Sure maybe the car does need all that for some people. But not everyone lowers their car and puts wide wheels on it. Yes probably the majority of people on stangnet do so. But that is not the average consumer. I see almost as many stock as I do see lowered. And I see even less with wider tires.

It makes sense if your going with a larger wheel. With the extra diameter of the tire you could use a 20" or larger wheel with a larger sidewall. But I have no idea why you would want to.

I agree, but nevertheless most 05 mustang buyers will probably buy different wheels and tires anyway in the long run.

So are the production tires going to be wider than the front or whats the story with this? sorry im lagging on the tire issue... The one problem i see with this for the majority of consumers is that rotating tires will no longer be possible.

I believe it is going to be 235/55/17 all around. It's probably too much too hope that the stock wheels are 17x9's...

My money is on the '05s having 17 X 8" wheels. My wifes Mellinia S has 17 x 8s with 235 50s. They look great on the Mazda b/c the wheel wells are smaller. 235 50s on the stang would look worse than seeing extra sidewall.

IMO standard should be 17x8's with 255/45ZR-17's.
Optional should be 18x9's with 275/40ZR-18's.

To me that would be perfect...but as usual Ford has to cut us short somehow...

Than what?

245/45/17 -- 25.68" tall, 9.65" wide
235/55/17 -- 27.18" tall, 9.25" wide

So that's 1.5" taller and 0.4" narrower.

I also hate those old style Cragar Wheels they threw on the car.

I much rather have the 5 spoke wheels that's on the Demo cars. They look sort of like BMW dish wheels.
