wheels & backspacing

ok Ive got an 87 hatch that Im wanting to put draglites or rodlites on. My car is lowered a bit(coil cut) and Im wanting to know what is the best "fit" is for my ride? I want them to be kinda wide or at least have the "wide" look. What kind of backspacing am I looking for? How is backspacing measured? Also I know a guy with a set(used) of 15x7s for $400. Is that a good price??? Thanks guys!!

15x8's with a 5.5 inch backspace. A 275 tire mounts on it very nicely.
