How can you tell if your Cobra intake is pre-chinese. Unless it's obvious, that's the number 1 reason to go with a GT40 or Explorer to me.

It is obvious.

The Chinese ones have this little boss behind the throttle body that says Ford racing. The original Ford ones don't.

As for the lower, the oem ones usually have an explorer lower with an F8-xxxx-BA part number. The Chinese ones have little markings and a tiny baffle on the underside

Thanks, Mike! Is it just me or does the casting look rougher, too?

Is it a plaque that can be removed, or would that leave a flat part that also isn't on the original. I can't remember what what mine looked like on that exact spot..

I think it's a decal. Also that above one may have been blasted. The finishes vary even between oem Ford intakes. Some look white and some have a yellow tinge to the color

This one is fake news.

He’s a local guy who uses 3 and 4 names and accounts to buy parts, low balls, gives sob stories and anything he can then lists everything super high. He’s been caught bidding on his own stuff to up the prices. Doing a deal with him once he showed me a box of 50+ maf ecu’s that he sells on eBay for like 500.... I can tell tons of stories... my favorite is him buying a used ram air hood and listing it Local for 100 above cirvinis and saying he’s a dealer, needless to say it’s been for sale for years.

That said, once I pull my polished one
I plan to list it for $500.

Wow,I got an upper and lower intake from a 99 Explorer from local pull a part for $50.00. They had ten V8's there, they were all gone until I got to the last one in last row. Got the heads from it too for $50.00 each.

I don't see how a Cobra intake is that Nostalgic. Just get an Explorer intake.

I agree 100%. I actually think the explorer intake looks great. Toss a refinished 5.0 HO plate on top and it's an OEM looking manifold with some good potential.

port the lower, 75mm TB and it's an intake that could power a lot of healthy street cruiser combos....and cheap.

I still like my 93 Cobra intake though and won't trade it out

I guess I don't have the popular opinion, but I like the looks of the Cobra intake most.

My all time favorite! I'm lucky enough to have the big three, tubular gt40, presently on the 'junk pile', a real cobra (thank you steve) and an explorer

Speaking of, a tubular GT-40 upper in need of refinishing showed up on Craigslist up in OKC with the seller asking $400 along with an Explorer lower (which is what they came with anyway, right?). Does that sound worth it to any of y'all?

Yup.. one of my buddies had a deal with him that went south and someone threatened to cut someone up with a chainsaw. The first real
Story I heard about the guy was from someone I got some wheels from. Showed me the engine he was building to replace his blown 5.0. Told me about the aluminum gt40x heads that were cracked that he sold to the guy the day before, they were already on Craigslist as “bolt on ready” for $900...

I really wish I had $400 burning a hole in my pocket, but I'm just going to have to wait and hope it's still available in a couple of weeks.

I got one for ya. I went to carlisle this past june. A guy setting up his booth pulls out the running horse 5.0 plaque for the tubular intake. I ask, he says 5. I pay. Same day a guy and his son looking at same plaque. Vendor says 250. I sold mine to him later that week for a hundy. What luck! He probably flipped it! Haha!
