... porting jobs Where can I send my stock crappy heads to get ported. I called DPM in cowansville but they said $1000 just to remove the thermacular (sp?) bumps. There must be a cheaper place, can it be done for around $300??? I just want to remove the bumps, I will attempt to do it myself. For $1000 I will take a week off work and grind the mofos down with a dremel, even if it takes 80 hours LOL

The valves, springs, and rockers are like new I would just re-seat them maybe? Anyway any advice... Right now I am thinking of just leaving them as is until I buy new heads (head cash went into a 48" HDTV ). Right now all that is changed is a HV oil pump, new timing chain assembly, Comp cams (I think only .500 lift), lifters. I am getting a Edlebrock performer intake and a 600cfm double pump carb. That should at least take my 351 stronger than a stock 302, even with the stock heads.

Right now I just want the car on the road and running, NEXT winter will be time to spend real cash on the engine. Besides I'm coming out of an 18 second beast so even a 14 second car will appear super fast to me.

Do a search in the 5.0 tech forum for 'Thumper'. You can ship them down to him.

heh I know because I didn't want a crappy brown engine in the garage for the new year party lol. Paint cost nothing... pride is expensive. I need to close the engine next weekend so I can drop it into the car soon.

I think I made up my mind, they go on stock as is, no point spending cash into rebuilding them because I want new ones ASAP.

I think when I worked out how much it would cost to send them down, etc., it got expensive. Also, it wasn't worth shipping the old heads down for a core fee, since shipping them would cost more than the core fee .

What we really need is one of the following:
- Kidnap Thumper, drag him to Canada .
- Find someone here that does Thumper-quality work
- See if we can get a group purchase through a machine shop. Where they have 20-30 of us offer up heads for porting/valve jobs/resurfacing/milling, and we get a nice group discount.

I've personally been thinking about going the budget head route myself. Either by purchasing GT40-P heads, or taking the E7 heads outta my thunderbird, doing the works on them, then putting it on my 83.

Actually now I've decided to get all the little tidbits to port things myself, get some practice E7 heads, and fire away

If I can do it well, I'm gonna do it for people regularly.

Yeah, but how much?

If someone's just getting e7 heads ported, chances are they're doing it to save money in the first place.

I got some porting stuff and an electric dremel (I don't like my dad's penumatic one). I can't wait to ruin *cough* I mean eh... port my crappy iron heads which I don't think even God knows what the *beep* they are... They are marked with WCP on them... If I sell my ZX2 early I might cough up some cash for a new set of heads though *cross fingers*

second vote for PSP
if you want a good porting job (not that I'm doubting your skills with a dremel)
just think of it as a road trip! it's not THAT far.

You may doubt my dremel skills because I am new at this I will either loose a finger or two or scrap the heads but if I loose my fingers I'd have insurance cash to buy new set of heads win win... lol

need head???

Yeh, kid nap Thumper.... and take me on a MOOSE Hunt, and I do the E7s free!!! Actually try this.. see the attached, pix of exhaust ports on E7s with gasket!! I paint the heads white, lay the gasket on, scribe the out line and then match the exhaust port to the gasket.... AFTER the gasket is matched to the exhaust ports.... THEN I take my die grinder and carbide cutter ( 35.00 USD) and knock out the EGR bump!! SO far... 2 hours involved!! then just square up the inside of the port, knock down the sharp edge on the short radious of the intake and the exhaust.... ( and your building HP) send it to a shop for a good performance valve job and surface... and your rocking!! Cool??

Oh... about the MOOSE Hunt... that is all we ate for meat when I lived in Alaska for 12 years... Moose, Carabou, Salmon, Halibit... the good life!!
Got back to the lower 48 and the wife told me the Filet we were having was "spoiled" !! Sure miss that place...ahh.. Food!! Its hard to beat 78* and a crystal clear pool here in Fl. now...LOL

Hope I helped..

Just me...........................
