Im looking for commonly removed stuff that you have taken off of your cars for weight reduction if you have removed something from your car to reduce weight please list it

(girlfriend already removed)

personally: smog pump and tubing, catalytic converters and stock x-over, a/c pump and condensor & lines, spare tire/jack, dog bone, sound deadening, i know theres more ive done but its too late to think!!

others do alum. head, seat deletes & lighter seats, k members, fiberglass hoods and panels, lexan glass, alum d/s, manual steering, blah blah the list goes on for ever!

im surprised you didnt say charcoal canister. i hate seeing people say remove that. it weighs like 1/4 of a pound.

Charcoal canister - Remove that

The front and rear bumpers(metal ones, not the urethane cover) weight a bit.

What are you doing this for? Street/strip or strip only?

DONT remove the metal under the urethane!!!!!! it will look bad!!! your bumpers will look all wavy and distorted! the metal is what retains the shape of the bumpers!! unless you dont care what they look like!!!

It is for street strip so i will keep the bumper metal pieces but i thought about making new braces out of aluminum

stereo and speakers are gone too

If you've changed out the rear gears, go ahead and remove the dog bone bolted to the rear end. It serves no purpose after they've been changed anyway. There's an easy 15-20lbs

If you ever have your entire interior removed, scrape off all the "sound deadening" material that is glued all over the floor pan. You would be surprised how much that stuff weighs. Be sure to spray paint the floor pan after to keep it from rusting.

If it's a caged car with door bars you can cut the side-impact braces out of the doors. I can't remember exactly but I'm thinking they were about 20 lbs each. Cannot stress enough, cage cars only.

A/C

I just removed my A/C a few days ago.

It's gotta be a good solid 60 lbs or so.

I could not believe how heavy that compressor is !

There is a book called "Mustang Performance Handbook 2" that has dimensions for making a replacement bumper that is a lot lighter than the stock steel bumper. It's a pretty simple thing to make without the proper dimensions, but the book is worth buying. Lots of cool stuff in it.

Also, I can't remember what years had them, but some Mustangs had a plastic bumper that is a lot lighter than the steel ones. I see them all the time in junk yards.

But yes, definately have something there in place of the steel bumper should you decide to remove it.

I've removed the dog bone, quad shocks, all AC equipment, rear seat and all engine brackets were replaced with March aluminum brackets except for the smog pump bracket which was cut down. The last time I weighed it (before the seat removal and March brackets) the Stang was 3180 with a full tank of gas. If I remove the spare and run 1/4 tank of gas it may be darn close to 3,000 now. I've also looked at a fiberglass stock shaped hood at 18 pounds that should knock about 20 pounds off of the front.

I took out the spare and the jack and lost traction, so I put them back in. So much for my weight savings.

THANK YOU!!! Finally another person that knows removing bumpers makes your bumpers sag.....plus if you get hit...ALL damage that the bumper would normally stop, goes into the frame rails and body of your car. What protects that radiator/ condensor and motor????

DING DING DING!!!! The front bumper rebar. And yes they are fiberglas.... and YES they are extremely strong!!!
