Recently i posted about how my car was running like crap. I went through all the electrical and nothing worked. Well i finally got my timing light back and timed the car... It was like retarded 20 degrees..

The distributor hadn't moved. (I know this because due to the fuel rails i had to notch a place on the distributor to fit.) The pins in the distributor gear were fine along with actual gears themselves on the cam and distributor. I checked for play in the timing chain it it seems to be fine also.

The only thing that comes to mind is maybe the key on the crank or something is starting to go?

I notched another section of the distributor and put it at 10 degrees base timing like it was and the car runs like a raped ape now... Feels like i may have a hair to much timing but its back to normal for the most part.

Little nervous about pushing it because somehting had to happen to loose that much timing? Any guesses?

agreed, check the HB for a slipped ring. the inner and outer rings are connected with an elastomer. the elastomer can crack or start to let go and the outer ring can spin.

the elastomer lookin like poo is a good sign. if you think it slipped, DONT drive the car till it is fixed.

good luck.

Even it the balancer had spun it would make his car shake like he was rolling down a hill. Secondly it would make the timing marks off but it wouldnt actually make his timing off. The balancer only has the markings its not the actual timing.

I do have a Romac which is an SFI unit... And i have also had a bad balancer before and know what thats like.

And Like WhiteDevil said the timing wouldn't actually be off like it was if it was the balancer that was off it would just read off. When i put it back to 10 degrees the car came back to life.

So im still scared that something internal is messed up but i can't tell what. I just hope the cam and everything is still degreed in...

I have to ask,.. how many miles are on the car?. and, is it possible (because of the previously mentioned) that the timing chain jumped?

Chains do stretch..
