hey guys I want to know if this cable goes anywhere....I think it goes under the throttle but im not sure

does it go there where hte arrow is pointing to in the first pic? onto the throttle? the 2nd pic shows which cable it is.

DUUUUDE, don't drive it like that!!!!! Is your car still an automatic? If so, that is your Throttle Valve Cable, without that it will quickly burn up the AOD trans. If you don't have an automatic trans and went to a 5 speed you can get rid of it.

But if it is still an automatic, don't drive it, smell the trans fluid (to see if it is burnt), go down to the ford dealer and get a new TV grommet for the throttle body.

How long has it been like that?

If the fluid smells burnt, the damage is done, and the trans needs to come out and needs a rebuild.

Oh, and the new grommet is a couple of bucks, and it goes in the hole in the TB, and the cable "tit"(lack of a better word) goes into that.

yea its still a AOD. car has only been driven once the other day. didnt smell anything but im going to change the trans fluid since the car had been sitting for a long time. so that cable doesnt work anymore? I will need to get that TV grommet cable?

ps - the car hasnt been driven only for once (the other day maybe about 5-7 miles) you think that can also be the cause of why the speedometer wasnt working propertly? the day i drove it it was marking 40mph but really was going about 25 or so. im not going to drive it till i get that fixed

Teah, smell the fluid on the dipstick, if it's not burnt, you're probably good. The TV cable tells the trans how much pressure to apply and when to shift due to the throttle position. The speedometer sounds like a gear problem, did you possibly put a lower(higher number) ring and pinion in it? Or know if it ever got a lower gear installed? Sounds like a 3.73 gear or something got put where the 2.73 factory gear was, and needs a different driven gear on the speedometer cable. It's a relatively easy swap, pull the old one off and swap on the new one.

no clue if the guy i bough it from put different gears into the car I would assume he did since he put a shifter on the car. I will check that by lifting car marking a line on a tire and on the differential and counting how many turns the differential does.

and also tomorrow i will check the transmission fluid and see if it smells burnt or not. another problem that i noticed was that either 2nd or 3rd gear would slip but i think that this is due to the car having been sitting there for abour 2 yrs.

and yea the TV cable sounds like the problem since the other day teh car didnt want to shif into D after a while a did.

Personally, I'd stick with the old cable as long as it doesn't bind or anything, I got my cable for my swap from the junkyard.

I'd personally get a gauge and set the TV just to be sure. Change the fluid out with some good fluid, do the gear if it needs it, and go for a test drive, and you should be as good as gold. Just as long as the TV didn't burn it up, but you'll be able to tell by taking a smell of the dipstick, and checking the color of the old fluid.

Red -> Dark reddish brown=good
Brown -> Black= Forkd up

Oh P.S. the cable is supposed to have a little "preload" stretch on it, to mainly get the slack out of it.

And yes, that is where it should go.

coo so keep same cable just put a gause on it and what kind of fluid would you recomend? not to pricey though hehe

about to go check fluid and smell it ill post back on color and if theres any burnt smell

well just went to check the fluid and is reddish and doesnt smell like its burned. so I guess im good i will changing the fluid, filter and checking the gears tomorrow to get all this fixed thanks guys oh yeah and putting a gauge on the current TV cable

Yep, the pressure at the TV test port should be about 30 psi with the ford tv spacer tool installed, the more the better, but not over 36 psi for a non-modified car. It should be 0-5psi at idle. The higher the TV pressure, the firmer and later the shifts will be.
The best way to tell is with the 0-100 psi gauge. This will probably be a one time thing, if you don't have a gauge, if you know somebody that will let you borrow a gauge, it beats buying one, but buying a gauge is cheaper than a whole trans.

I'm not meaning to scare you by any stretch, but I've been there, I've seen quite a few of these transmissions fail because of this.

Also, if you can find the thickness of the Ford TV spacer tool, you can fab your own for cheap.

I've got one around here somewhere, I'll find it and measure it if you can't find the thickness.

A good quality DexronIII/Mercon fliud will work great. I wouldn't get the cheap stuff though. I'd say stick with a name brand you like.

My dad probably has a gauge laying in the garage somewhere where exactly is hte TV test port at? or how will i measeure the psi on it? if not i can probably borrow one from a buddy has to be a psi gauge right? also if you can find and measure your's that would be great or maybe someone here knows the size by memory now

The TV test port is on the passenger side of the trans, about 1/2"-3/4" above the rail of the fluid pan. It is the recessed plug, 7/16" head, 1/8"NPT thread plug, and "TV" is casted above the plug. It may be hard to see on yours because of the location of the plug, with the exhaust and such in the way.

I'll find mine and measure it later.

most auto parts stores that carry or have a "help" section have the plastic bushing that goes on the throttle body for the cable. You can also get one from the ford dealer for a few$$. There is a updated bronze bushing that ford has or you can get it from 50resto.

thanks man im gonna get me the bronze one since it will be better from the ford dealer. since on 50resto it will probably be pricey with shipping and all that.

I measured my tool tonight and came up with 0.276" on my dial caliper.
