Ok, I'll admit, people call me Corky. But I'm confused. Where in the hell is the "fuse" in the "fusable link" from the alternator to the selanoid? Is it under heat shrink? HELP
uh huh, the fusible link is designed so that it will fail if something happens so that the rest of the wire doesn't burn/melt. Then, you just replace the little fusible link instead of the whole wire. There is no "fuse" that you can readily take in or out.
If you ever get a 3g alternator and do the wire upgrade, you could run a fuse or circuit breaker. I have a circuit breaker on my 4 gauge alternator wire for my 140 amp powermaster alternator
I think mine was melted (and you could tell it) when it went bad. You could use a digital volt meter and ohm it out and see the resistance of the wire. It should be relatively low, like below .1 or so
If you don't have a digital volt meter, I would suggest purchasing one. Mine was about $30 at autozone and I use it so much, it's worth every penny.
I'm gonna splice it out and see if that helps. I'm hoping that this is the reason that I'm only seeing about 9 volts on the stock gauge, no matter the revs. Alternator was shorted out, so this link probably fried a bit...
