i don't know of anyone that produces/sells 428's outright.... especially not w/cj heads... i think you will have to find someone who is willing to part with one used...
I think the semi hemi was rare but I dunno too much about fords. I grew up with gm and mopar. My '67 is the first ford in the family since my cousins got rid of their econoline van and mustang II a few years ago.mob said:
The paw catalog is great they have a lot of net engines in there. You could do a 351 stroked out to 408 and all kinds of things. They got lots of crate engines. You'll have to ask around about quality because I've heard totaly different things from different people.
The Shelby GT 500 had a 428 Cobra Jet... not to be confused with the the Super Cobra Jet. The 427 from unique performance is of a new casting of the old 427s and their's arent the cammer engines but just an all aluminum engine. The 427 "side oiler" is an awsome engine with its ability to rev higher than the 428 but what the 428 lacks in high revs it makes up in low end grunt. Neither engine is anything to scoff at but each have their place and their perks. I cannot remember but there is a shop that has a webpage that specialzes in FE's and they have crate engines for sale. From what I have heard they do great machine work and are the best bet for you. Maybe some Stangnet Member could help a bit. Be prepared to drop a few thousand though. Though the 428 is not necessaily rare like the Boss 429, they aren't that sought after because only the few really are impractical enough to own such an impractical engine... Its just awsome. What type of car were you planning on putting this engine in?

The GT500's didn't have 428CJ's they had a 428PI ( police interceptor) motor. The main difference there was the heads, which really weren't that much different,mainly just that the CJ's had slightly larger valves ( 2.09 vs 2.04) If he wants a genuine 428CJ, then go to the Ford Big Block FE forums on Network54.com, there's usually someone there selling a 428CJ motor in the classifieds. If he wants to save a few dollar, just stick a warmed up 390 in there, with a 428PI intake painted blue, and a pair of CJ valve covers, nobody will be able to tell the difference.

Not that I am going to try to sway you from the 428, you might consider getting a stroked 351 base block. That way you can make some really good power in a light package especially if handling is a consideration. With the 428 I highly recommend getting some weld in shock tower reinfocement(if it didn't already come with a FE), sub frame, shock tower brace and possibly a monte carlo bar which may be a bit more money and work than anticipated.
