Which air compressor?

Sears has a 30gallon Craftsman compressor plus a 1/2" impact gun, impact wrench, and impact chisel plus the hose and connectors for $329. I don't really like Sears or Craftsman but this sounds like a good deal. What kind of compressors does everyone else have? I mainly just need air tools to help with my suspension install so I am unsure if I need something this big.

I have the Campbell Hausfiedl from Walmart. It was $249...28 Gallon, verticle with 125 PSI.

There were no tools with it, but the tools suck anyways. I bough $100 worth of stuff from Harbor Freight.

If you dont need it right away, I would check sears every week till Father's Day and see if there is some great ad for it.

Subscribe to Craftsman.com, and see if they send you a 10% off certificate via EMail or something.

I got my CH one b/c of the deal I got at Walmart where I work...BUT..You cant go wrong with that VERTICAL Craftsman one..I would pay over $299 for it tho.

I have this set up. I bought mine last Christmas for $299 with the tools. The impact gun is tiny and won't take lugs off wheels. The impact wrench isn't all that bad. Mine did not come with the chisel. I went to Harbor Freight and bought there "Tornado" Impact gun for $70 (500 Ft lbs.). Can't believe how well it works. Also bought two 50 foot hoses and crap load of fittings. The air hose it comes with is crap so just throw it away. Hit up Harbor Freight.

I figured the tools would suck since they were included as a package. I will check out Wal-Mart, I have plenty of friends with the discount card so I will see what kind of deal I can get. And yes, I know that is "illegal" but I do it all the time on other stuff. Hell, I used to work for Wal-Mart and like a year after I quit I was shopping there and one of my many old bosses asked if I was on break?! so I doubt they will find out. I already checked out Harbor Freight and they really have some great deals.

Anyway...Get their compressor and air ratchet...the air ratchet has some good tq to it..They also have a decent impact gun for a good price that I have used for my tires AND alternator pulley.

For the connectors, hoses, air blowers, tire gauges, die grinders, cutters, etc, I say Go to Harbour Freight.

I WONT tell you to get the Campbell Hausfeld OVER Craftsman..All I CAN tell you it that The C.H at Walmart is a good machine AND a good price..but NO accessories. (which arent that good anyway)

If you can save $50 on that one over Craftsman, I say Go For It.

Bob is NOT "the big dog". I know the entire chain of command from the President of Pharmacy Division (highest Pharmacy Person) down to me, and his name is not in there anywhere...Maybe he is an Office person for the pharmacy at the home office.

Anyway...check out the C.H. and see what kinda deal you can get.

One of the most important things to look at when buying a compressor is the CFM rating. Look at the type of tools you are looking to operate and their CFM draw at their operating PSI. Horsepower and Max PSI are not always good indicators of a compressors power.

For example I just bought a 2.5 HP Eagle compressor with twin 2 gallon tanks for my roofing nailer and it flows 4.1 cfm at PSI, CH and others sell 5 HP compressors that will not flow that much air and cost more. The other thing to consider is noise a oil free is much louder than a oil lubricated compressor.

Take a look at the tools you want to operate and they should show what their CFM draw is at their operating PSI and then you can see if you are buying a compressor that meets your needs.

It is better to pay a little more up front than to find out down the road it won't do what you want it to do like run your DA sander or air chisel, etc.
