Which CAI would you buy for a 1999 Mustang GT: JLT, Steeda, K&N or a CNL with a Trueflow inlet pipe and the MAF system, I have heard however that you shouldn't change your stock meter with the CNL kit with just bolt ons.
Your advice would be greatly appreciated

Densecharger, or Tunable intake(Whatever they are now).

They are dyno tuned and tested. Site is down now, or I would insert dyno results. :notnice:

I would recommend the MAF also they calibrate them for the cars in question and also for the bend in front of the MAF.

Just my .02, and MY SOTP meter says it was good for more than a few HP. :nice:

bad advice overall. tech is not founded on sotp meters

Yep, CAI's are worthless...

The actual piping may not be worth a crap, but no one will deny that simply changing the air filter will give you 5-7hp.

Hence why I dont see how everyone thinks they are worthless. Most CAI's come with a K&N or good aftermarket air filter. I guess now changing air filters is pointless huh?

Honestly if I had it to do over again I would just buy in a new air filter. More bang for the buck, but I love how my BBK CAI looks going into the Accufab TB/Plenum :nice:

actually i think your 5-7rwhp number is 2 or 3 times what you will actually gain with a filter...stngstr use to trap 104+ consistently with xpipe, pullies, t/a, 4.10s and a stock paper filter at 3450 or so race weight....if you think a filter gives that much gains you should pull it at the track and see, you wont gain any mph

CAI's are not worthless but they arent going to make a huge difference. I shaved .1 off my time after I got the Densecharger kit that is TB to fender no MAF. So I wouldnt call them worthless but they arent gonna make any huge difference.

Before and after every mod I do to my Stang, I test the results with my Gtech Comp. and then record my results in my log book. This is how I test:
1) record 3 baseline runs. [ I add the total of the 3 runs, then divide by 3 to get the average]
2) install mod
3) reset EEC, then go for 20 min. run so the EEC can relearn
4) record 3 runs
I then remove the mod, do step #3, then record 3 more runs to see if they match my baseline run, go back, reinstall mod, then step #3 again before doing my final 3 runs. It's a little time consuming but it eliminates any errors, so I know weather the mod truely works or not. I did this test with my Mac fenderwell CAI, then retested with just the open K&N under the hood.Stock air intake with K&N and snorkle removed. And lastly, the Mac upper intake tube with stock airbox.
After a full day on testing, I found zero gains in any of the tests. On the bright side, I didn't find any loss in HP on any of the tests either.
I never tested any of the other CAIs, just the Mac.

I have an FIPK kit, and wish that I spent my money elsewhere.... :bang: :bang:

Took my g/f's car to the shop to get the gears installed which was the very first mod she did to the car. With the chip in hers and a slight tune she was putting down 226 at the wheels. We threw a K&N on it and it jumped to 231 at the wheels. Ive seen it happen on the dyno is all Im saying. It could have been just plain variability along with a few extra hp giving the 5hp increase, but it did happen lol. Im not saying they are a great mod for the price, but on her car that day it picked up 5hp with just an air filter swap.

I've got the MAC Straight Shot & Tend to agree there are other mods that make bigger bang for your buck. FYI if you go MAC though, the pipe is too long making it a real tight fit....

i've seen cars dyno 6rwhp lower after sitting for 20 minutes....does that mean the motor was losing hp because of boredom or something.
