I was showing my nephew what my car could do today... needless to say it started smoking (slightly) So instead of getting on it i eased it home...

Well to make a long story short im like 90% sure its my head gasket.. exhaust smells like antifreeze and it was pushing antifreeze into my overflow tank..

I had used the felpro ones that came in the FMS complete gasket kit. They looked a little cheap to begin with...

My question is what head gaskets should i get? Also i am looking for some that are a little thicker to help out with my slightly higher compression..

im using felpro 9333's. I talked to quiet a few people over on the corral, and that seems to be the best gasket for boost. Some guys are running 20+ pounds with these gaskets without problems. Do a search over there and here and you will get a ton of reading.

I looked up the felpro 9333's and all i could find was 9333PT-1 and it said that it was an oem replacement not meant for race applications...

Im looking at the copper gaskets by mildon... all i see is for a 351 but wouldn't they be the same? They come in a varidy of thicknesses

Alright... i just called up summit and ordered a set of Mildon Copper head gaskets that are .060 thick (about the thickest ones i could find)

Anybody see any problems with this? The summit rep said there would be no problems with my intake fitting. I know i could be loosing a little bit of horsepower by doing this but its probably better on the motor anyway..

You didnt search very hard LOL. Yes it is 9333 pt-1

Heres is a thread on corral(one of many) http://www.corral.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=421183&highlight=9333PT1

Like i said search over there, and look at the boost the guys are running.

I would be careful with "thicker" headgaskets. it can kill the quench of the engine.

Also, i read a thread a while back where 2l8luluz called felpro and asked them whats the best they have, they told him the 9333's.

im trying to see what head gaskets i was running for sure.. I know they are felpro, just not sure which ones.. Whatever i was running held up to nitrous and the blower for a little while..

but like i stated before my compression is a little less then 9.7:1.. i think i needed to knock that down a little.. Might be half the cause for it going in the first place...

Ordered new intake gaskets and header gaskets... Anything else im missing? Still gotta get some oil..

I stripped the car down to the short block today... Took me approx 4-5 hours... And you could bearly see where there were two black spots on a ring of one of the head gasket and you could see were it worked its way through the cheaper material of the head gasket to one of the water jackets or vise versa. The piston was also much cleaner then the rest.

I think the main cause of this is me not having the block decked... So its costing my approx 150 dollars due to the lack of some cheap machine work. :bang: Hopefully these copper gaskets will hold.. They surely wont work there way to a water jacket like these did.

I have had problems with this cylinder fowling the plug in the past so it was no surprise...

I also ordered some more royal purple today... I should have my baby up and running like new in no time...
