had a quick ? and figured id start a new thread not to jack the other cam thread, but i am looking at getting a set of Longtubes. Im not trying to go with kooks or slp, even tho id like to i jus cant spend900+ on a set. I'm looking at either the bbk or Mac ceramic coated. I know with the BBK i will need one of their xpipes. Which out of those would net me the most power as well as the best quality? And if anyone has either of these please post and let me know your impressions on either, thanks

i have the BBK ceramic LT's and BBK o/r x pipe, it cost me about 750 for both from jegs. got them about a year and a half ago, no problems whatsoever, they still look brand new. i really recommend them for cost and performance.

Just wondering, looking on the kenne bell website 3v tech tips they say there is no horse power gain in the exhaust up to 700 plus rear wheel horse power and they challenge any exhaust maker to prove a real gain on their dyno. except for sound is it worth it?

I've read this too. Problem is that no magazine ever really does one part at a time so it's very hard to tell if there is a real gain. Personally I like playing with different exhausts on my vehicles but with the price for headers and midpipes being so crazy I'll take KBs word for it and go with axle backs.

That's true. I've heard it from more than one tuner headers on these cars is a waste unless you want sound. You will see no real gains until you put FI on them. If you notice on your stock manifolds they are already cut to where it makes the air flow out of them a lot more free than previous mustang manifolds.

A local shop by me made great power without touching the exhaust, except for mufflers. Check them out here:

if you think that axle backs will net you as much power as long tubes or o/r pipe then you need not even waste time modding your car :rlaugh:

According to Kenne Bell headers ,mufflers, catted x pipe, gutted cat or any cat backs did not make any extra power.. did not see a dyno test on offroad x or h pipes from them...... anyone wth accurate dyno info prove them wrong? 1/4 or 1/8 mile times? not to put anyone down, just curious?

I'm not saying axle backs will get you anymore power than long tubes or any other exhaust mod. Just saying I can get the sound I want out of axle backs and put the money saved by not buying long tubes, mid pipes, etc into something else.

Don't feed the troll. :Zip2:

a reasonable question makes someone a troll? i read alot but don't post much. you have any educational input or just make assumptions? i want to spend on money that makes proven horsepower and my car faster. i used to have a 2002 Vette now have a 2008 GT and trying to get the most bang for the buck, besides if i can be stealthy and not lose power so much the better.

Just finished the header install and lemme tell you what....NEVER AGAIN haha, luv the extra sound and also felt a gain inpower. Going to dynotune my car this weekend, but lemme tell you it WAS a pain in the ass haha. Still happy with it and the hookers fit surprisingly well

da vette guy; it's probably the name your using as much as your posts that got the troll thrown out there, but welcome anyway.
It has been proven many times that axle backs make no power over the well designed factory exhaust; it's purely a sound preference.
Good long tubes (such as Kooks) with a catted or non-catted mid-pipe can get you 15 or 20 h.p. with tuning. Problem is you will spend over $1500 for that small increase. $75 per h.p. is hard to swallow. A good tune can get you as much as 30 h.p. for less than half the price.
A twin screw blower is without a doubt the best way to go, but also very expensive. The advantage of the blower is great low end torque, h.p., and street legal. Most mods including tunes and exhaust are illegal in most states and may not pass inspection. The blower is a one shot deal that can easily take you to 450-500 h.p. and you're done. I suggest not going past 450 h.p. or so as the internal engine parts are reaching their limits at that point.

Blakdout, did you use your Pypes offroad X with the hookers? Was it difficult to make it work? Do you have any pictures? And does it look like there's enough room to splice in some cats?

thanks, just wondering why kenne bell would post that on their website. anyways i like Vettes (had 4) Mustangs had over 10 ,anything from a 69 mach 1 428 cobra jet to my present 08 Gt, i've had 3 9 second bikes(Hayabusa,Gsxr1000,Kawasaki zx 14) had over 300 other cars,i have been drag racing off and on for 35 years, worked as a Lincoln mercury Ford tech 24 years i've spent a lot of money on junk that didn't make my car any quicker and some that lost power ,dyno's are great but if it doesn't make it quicker in the 1.8 or 1/4 i don't want it. besides i'm 51 i'm too old to care about trolling
