i've got a choice between a cobra intake or an explorer intake, my set up is ported polished gt 40 heads, e303 cam, stock headers o/r hpipe summit catback, 75mm t/b, 75mm mass air. which do you think i should use? performance wise really, if i wanted it for looks id choose the cobra intake. thanks.

the runners are pretty much identical so they will both perform the same. Get whichever one is cheapest(exploder) and call it a day.

If you use the Cobra intake, get an original one. The new Ford Racing units runners look like a box of rice crispy's on the insde.

pick the Cobra just for looks and value - no performance gain there.

+1 on the cobra

I have both intakes, and the explorer plenum looks larger inside. Some say that the explorer upper flows more evenly than the Cobra, but with a stock lower it's not gonna matter. Pick whichever one looks better to you.

I've seen tests that show the two intakes perform identically. If you like the looks of the Cobra better, do it.

Does the Cobra/Explorer intake similarities only matter if it's JUST the upper intake swap? A buddy of mine wants to buy a Explorer setup that comes with the injectors, rails, throttle body, upper intake and lower intake for around $200 after shipping. Is this a good deal?

The stock lower will not work with either the cobra or the explored.. The ports are not the same..

$200 is about right for a complete intake that includes shipping (~$30-$50).

The GT40 looks great and would have been my only reason for using it. I went with the stock ported upper and lower (the full monty) by TMOSS.
