ok i wanna buy a 94-95 5.0 mustang. and im jus wondering why im seeing videos on youtube and **** and 5.0 mustangs are getting burnt by all kinds of different cars and even trucks. im jus wondering if a 5.0, 2003 4.6 gt, or the new body 4.6 gt lined up all stock standard transmissions and raced which one would win? cause the 5.0 is like 215 hp, the 2003 is like 260 hp and the new ones are 300 hp. so in other words i want everyone to try to help me understand why there is such a big deal about the 5.0 and maybe halp me still want one. lol cause right now im starting to think they slow.

Its all personal preference. I like working on my own car, and found a pushrod engine easier to work on. The 5.0 has good torque for the street as well. I hated the purr of the 4.6 when I had one, and pushrod engines tend to have more of a lopey idle, which is what I prefer. Youre gonna have more out of the box power with a newer 4.6, so if thats what youre lookin for, then just buy a newer stang. The thing is, if they still produced the pushrod engine, Im sure its power would have increased with the technological advances, just like the 4.6. My .02

I personally prefer the 5.0 potential. The 4.6 doesnt get that much respect from me. At the track and hangouts you see the 4.6's getting burned up by 5.0's all the time. I have personally taken my friends 97 cobra also and a diesel 1500 of a friend of mines, They where close races but the good old 5.0 was always that tad bit ahead by 90mph then I would let off.

You also have to remember, ALOT of people have their 5.0's running like crap and very poorly maintained. I personally have every possible bit squeezed out of mine that I can hence it runs so well. And have run with the SN95+'s out of the hole to 90 or so and always stay just that bit ahead. I stop at 90 or so because no point in going any faster than that.

very easy to modify compared to 4.6. alot of room to work with. in many cases less problems with emissions standards being pre 96(pennsylvania anyway) plus there is tons of potential and if you think you want to do it there is a chance someone already did it and made a write up so easyier for you.......again all preference:nice:

Haha, if they keep going, so do I! Im young and dumb though, as long as there is a long, straight, and completely empty stretch of road up ahead! I dont race other mustangs, usually just give them the thumbs up, so I dont know how my car compares to a new edge... I really, really like racin the IROC-Zs around here though, cause like GTA said, a lot of people with older cars just havent kept up the maintainance and they run like poo...

P.S. I see this going to talk very soon.

depends if you are looking to mod it and make it fast go for the 5.0 Cu's stock all 3 will be pritty slow, with the exception of the new 4.6, it would be faster stock then the other 2, but ur mods vs cost are very limited.....

Well :D

You can see the simple math of 5.0 @ 215 & 4.6 @ 260
so
If you wanna use a drag strip launch and WOT as a method of evaluation

Then ... that is one thing :)

But

If you wanna cruise around town and ask the motor to show its ability of
producing torque from a low rpm WITHOUT shifting

Then ... that is another thing :)

Each Stang is gonna act differently :Word:

I'd tell you to drive a nice 94-95 thats in good shape and is stock or just
has a few simple mods ... that is if you can find one ;)

You should easily be able to tell the difference

Both Stangs are great ... but ... Make power very differently :D

Is a 5.0 mustang the fastest stock? Absolutely not...

But the thrill of a pushrod v8 gets the smile on my face every time...

Remember that the 5.0 is user firendly for mods and maintence, they last forever and are getting cheaper by the day...

Now tell us where you are at and you may be able to score a ride...

i live around new orleans louisiana. in harvey to be exact. thanks for the info guys. my friends lil bro has a 95 5.0 and he asked me to wash it one day. and i took it for a ride and i loved it. i smoked a honda S2000 and a old camaro. but i was jus wondering what was up with the videos of neon srt4's beating 5.0's on youtube. but i got a 04 tahoe right now im trying to get someone to take over notes so i can get me a 5.0. i wanna do some work to it and make it faster anyway.

You have to remember most of those 5.0's barely have anything done to it and most SRT4's have all kinds of things done to them. And remember what SRT stands for Street and Racing Technology and thats of 2004. Your talking about 80's and 90's technology against purpose built vehicles. But either way we always get the jump on them outa the whole even stock (I know I always do) I can hold me own if not take a stock SRT 4. So yea that.

Idk...my guess is cause stock stangs are weaksauce slow.

I mustered a 14.9 at 89 and some change stock with a slight timing advance and a 'decent' 60'. From the trap, that's about all it had.

I can think of a crapton of cars that will out-trap it factory, esp when a STOCK srt4 runs around a minimum of 95-96mph to about 101 on freak cars.

I think 5.0s shouldve come turbo stock. 215hp is pathetic when my T/A of the same vintage had 275 and a 6spd.

5.0s are easy to work on though and sound AWESOME. They just need a power adder to really go fast

Well live everyone else said each motor has its own good points but we all get a smile when hearing a 5.0L
It is getting hard to find a 94-95 in good condition and we get harder each year.
I spent over a year looking before I found my Cobra and that was like 6 years ago.
Srt-4 Neons on the other hand really depends on whose driving. I have taken one down at the track mind you we only have 1/8 mile tracks around here though.
You said your in New Orleans I will be going down there on Easter weekend.
I've never been there before in my life.

cause Right now, I'm starting to think they are slow.
Much better . . .

Correcting grammar is pretty low of me, but the original post is pretty stupid. If you want a Mustang, buy one. If you don't, then don't buy one. If you are making the decision on your next (first?) car based on what you see on youtube, you need help. You need to go out and drive something. I hate to give real advice here, but you also need to realize that you can make anything fast with enough money.

some points to look at hear

Stock for stock, showroom for showroom, all 4.6L are faster than a stock 5.0 HO. The newer they are, the harder they beat the stock 5.0L.

However, the '96-'98 are a drivers race with them. The '98s are actually very slightly faster. I have did a test with each one stock from a 5 mph roll to eliminate the launch factor. The '98 started pulling instantly.

I have no problems with torque in either of the 4.6L I have owned or drove. It makes the same torque 100 RPM higher.

The 4.6L is very comparable to a 5.0L as far as the top-end, except for some of head bolt torquing, in car. The camshafts are easy, if you have did it once before.

I have did a h/c/i swap on both a 5.0 and 4.6. It is all in what you are used to. I think they both have their place:nice:
