Which junkyard fan is the best?

what year and engine size of countour did this come out of? also you mentioned a 6G alt? is that right or do you mean a 3G alt? If a 6G whats the diffrence between them and a 3G? What did the 6G's come in stock (years and makes) And also if i already have a 3G is the wireing all the same way?peace

Every year the made a Contour/Mystique. I has to be one with a 2.5L V6 not a 4 cyl.
It is a 6G alt. It has a smaller casing then thr 3G and the bracket doesn't need to be trimmed. It also has 2lbs less of rotating mass and runs cooler. The regulator plug is different. I got mine on ebay. Just type in Ford 6G in the search box. I paid $102.88 shipped with the regulator harness.

does the 6G produce more power then the 3G? peace

87GT Drop Top -

I know this is an old thread - however, I was wondering if you have any updates as to the use of the Hayden #3654 dual fan controller you mention you had purchased & installed above?

By chance do you know the specs on the included relays (how many amps each) - I tried looking on Hayden's actual website, but their site blows and hardly gives any specs about this controller. I even looked on Summit Racing's website too, again, any actual details about the entire controller's parts are lacking...

Have you had any issues with it since you installed it?

Did you wire this up per the Hayden instructions, or did you go a different route w/ your wiring install?

Are you still currently using it? (IF not, please explain)

Would you recommend this controller to anyone else who is using a dual 11" or dual 12" fan setup?

The reason I am asking is I have a SPAL dual 11" fan setup, been using it for years, just looking for a controller now and have been researching other controllers that will work (DCC, Hayden, FAL, SPAL, etc, etc).

Thx in advance for any more input or updates to this thread.

I have it wired one of the ways they recommend. If I remember correctly there was 2 was to wire it. From the factory the Contour fans are wired together. Plus they are 2 speed. I left it that way so both fans come on at once. One was to wire them as one fan and it said in the directions that wires the relays together so it will handle more amps. They also say you can wire them seperately. There are 2 relays in the controller. I can't remember, but they are I think 40 amps each. You set the controller to kick on at a certain temperature. When it reaches that temp they kick on low speed. If the temp goes up 10 degrees from there they go to high speed. Also they go right to high speed if the A/C is turned on. I would recommend it.

Thanks for the reply!

So, you have not had any cooling issues w/ that controller after you installed it and when using it w/ your dual fan setup? (ie: never any point in time when the controller has not turned on the fans, etc)

I see Summit has this controller for $49, so I'm thinking about ordering it from there (after reading your thread here and seeing your last response).

Dumb question, would the standard pulley that comes on the PA Performance 130A upgrade alt be enough to handle the Contour fans? Or would an overdrive pulley be needed? The only reason I ask is..... When I have my headlights on and I step on the brake, I lose about 1 volt on the gauge (gauge moves down a little). I know this is normal, but it doesn't even flinch on my 96 3.8. So I am just a little concerned if that pulley is the right one. Does anyone know what Make/Model the PA Alt is normally used for? Or is it custom built for the Fox Mustang?

Don't put any stock into the factory volt meter. Its a dummy gauge at best. Pay closer attention to the speed of the fans and your lights. If the fans slow down at idle, or your headlights dim, when you're stopped in gear, then it probably wouldn't hurt to downsize your alternator pulley.

In any case, you shouldn't have an issue with the 130A unit. Most 3G alternators from the factory (like the one on your V6) are actually only 95A, not 130. So unless you've got some major electrical draw on your system, you shouldn't have a problem.
