which mods which order for 500bhp

Right'o, if you where planning on building up a 5.0 (probably an 85-90 model) with a manual gearbox. The aim is circa 500bhp (thats at the engine) with brakes and handling to suit. Although engine and straight line speed would take preferance.

What would you do and in what order.

Lets say $3000-5000 as a budget for parts but not labour.

Fire away, all suggestions welcome.

Start with a good foundation, so your looking around $4300 USD for a DART based stroker shortblock....

500HP can be done on the stock block however you are on borrowed time.

what about keeping to 302ci would it be possible for a street car n/a?

would 480-500bhp be possible on a high CR block, or is street driveability going to suffer.

A N/A 500hp 302 is most likely going to be hell on the street. You will need some crazy comp. and a big ass cam.

Your better off putting that money towards a power adder if you want to do all this and brakes/suspension.

I planned for a few to 5 grand on my car, now I have well over 10. There are tons of combos and situations that can get you what you want, its all up to you.......

Now that I think of it, your best bet may be going the 351 route, you could build a reliable car with the power your looking for with a 351 n/a.

just curious hows gas in england did it go up from what happen here? I know you guys allready pay an arm and a leg its like 6 pounds for a gallon right?

well I was thinking it wouldn't be that easy.

A little back ground info. I'm really looking for a new long term project, mainly fun and track but will need to have the ability to be sensibly driven on the road when required.

I've been speaking with someone else on here, and they reckon "a few simple mods" and ta da 480bhp from a 5.0

They apparently have a 68 with a 302 overbore to 308 and 11.x:1 CR and other mods (not sure what) they claim this is 100% reliable as a daily driver with basically excerlent street manors (from what they where saying it was as if it drove like stock when not on it).

Is this combo really likely to offer all these things? If not whats the sort of limit you can sensible expect out of a street going 5.0 that doesn't require a mortgage in order to pay for it.

I'm open to suggestions, although I would prefer n/a to FI but you never know. All I want to do is make sure I start modding in the direction I want the project to lead so I don't end up doing everything twice.

yep we got ripped off even more because of Katrina, not sure why as we had plenty.

But yeah its around £1/litre - total RIP OFF. think it works out like nearly $10/gallon.

well 500 is really pushing a stock block, N/a is also difficult b/c your gonna need monster comp. like mentioned above, if you dont want to mortgage your house for your mustang and you dont want to go 351w or a stroked form of that motor, you gonna have to do what everyone else here does, give it boost

if you wanna stay na and streetable you need a bigger motor like 351,460.... ever thought abought nitrous not my cup of tea but a dart block and a 300 shot youll be there

fun power for a run down the track, but it wouldnt be there on the street, which I think hes looking for....

PTK turbo kit. Go from there as you feel comfortable.

My thoughts exactly. Do a twin turbo kit. stock block, and some forged pistons, and I think i've heard of 400-450whp on a stock engine. Then you can save up for the good block down the road, when the stock one finally lets loose. If your not happy, more boost is only a turn away. Then you also have HCI you can do to make more.

Edelbrock Performer heads, Pro Products Typhoon intake, Stock cam, Novi 1000 pullied for 10 psi. It may not be the most reliable setup, but that's the kind of 500 HP 5.0 you can build on your budget. Stick with the fuel injection too.

no no no not a twin turbo...try this on for size I will be using this kit when I get my stang..i plan on using the t76 http://www.hellionpowersystems.com/kit_86_93.php now thats what a turbo kit should look like!

500 HP N/A... just get a 351 and be done with it, should be perfectly streetable.
