which mods which order for 500bhp

500 HP N/A... just get a 351 and be done with it, should be perfectly streetable.
so does this mean a 302 with 480-500bhp wouldn't be all that streetable?

I've haven't got a 5.0 yet (only found 2 for sale so far, an auto and a vert???)

what would a 302 with rebuilt internals and raised CR with all the bolt ons be like? I'd be prepared to look at a 351 but if the 302 would offer what I want why spend more money.

Realistically, if the car is going to be street driven (not every day, but must be useable) how much BHP should you expect to get from a 302?

To get a 302 to make 500 HP is going to cost you more than to make a 351 make 500HP.

302 N/A 500 hp is out of the question unless you put a lot of money into the block and engine to rev it real high.

A rebuilt 302 with all the goodies, heads, intake and cam, fuel system etc... N/A should make 365HP at the crank. Maybe a little more if you match parts real well. If you boost that then you can definately hit 500 at the crank. But again, a 302 block is weak and is only a matter of time before the block splits at that power level.

A 351 is a stronger block and a better foundation for your goals. A good 351W buildup in my eyes is a bored out 351 (357) and possibly stroked and a good set of heads (AFR205), really good balanced forged rotating assembly and a good matched cam.

In the end youll be spending less money to make a 500 hp engine with the 351 as opposed to the 302. Why do more people like building up 302s? bigger market for the 302 and more people know about the 5.0 as opposed to the 351w. But for anyone that wants to make serious power, 500+, the 351w is the best option.

alright I'm convinced, 351 sounds the better option here.

How realistic would this combo be, as it sounds rather impressive to me:

My 302 is not highly tuned, it's just a few simple modifications anyone can do in their garage.

I have a 302 that is bored .040 over to make 308ci and it's 5.0L

11:1 compression, forged bottom end, ported th heads, vj intake, isky 304 cam. Just a few simple modifications

My 480hp 302 isn't an engine you can pick up on a shelf, it's unreliable? I'd hate to break it to you, but that's my reliable daily driver engine. It is completely streetable.
These are some quotes from the same person, and as far as I can tell about the same engine.

However having a look around and from what you guys are saying it sounds like 480bhp from a 302 n/a is more the rarity than the norm. Would this be a correct assumption?

Anyone got any links as where to look at buying a 351 motor. As I'm in the UK I probably won't find one at the scrap yard, so I'd probably look at buying a short motor or block and build it up.

Cheers for your help.

Yes a 480 hp naturally aspirated 302 (308) is rare. And, im sure it would be very unstreetable, cam would have to be a high RPM cam, idle would be high, car would stall often etc...

These companies are generally reliable.

Call up foxlake and ask them about a 351 or 408 (stroker 351) buildup.

I've heard generally good things about DSS.

Stroker 351W

This last link looks the most promising. Its a basic 351 stroked out and makes 475 HP.

Ta. :nice:

This is pretty lame since this thread is directed to mock me.

The engine was built for bracket racing. It ran on 100 octane (pump) and has plenty of mechanical problems when it did. If I was to add all my reciepts, and the previous owner's reciepts, they would be around $7k.

All my remarks towards being simple and streetable was sarcastic. In terms of being streetable, I did, but it's not comfortable.

don't worry yourself this wasn't an attack on you. Just a genuine enquirery about a future project.
