Which O/R pipe for a 'vert with magnaflows???

OK, last summer I installed a magnaflow catback. It sounds good, but I gotta get rid of the stock h-pipe. I actually kinda like the sound of the magnaflows with the h-pipe, but I have read that an x-pipe sounds even better. I also have heard that there might be fitment issues since I have a convertible and there is some sort of brace on the chassis near the crossover point. I'm lookin' for any advice or opinions on what sounds best and what needs to be done for the installation. Thanks!!!

I went with the catted X-pipe at Summit. It fits fine and sounds good. I am using the Dynomax cat-back with aluminum tailpipes. You will need to fabricate a connection for the air tube, or just have someone do it for you after you install the x-pipe.

The brace will only interfere with LT headers (specifically BBKs, beleive me I found out the hard way ) With just an offroad x or h you wont have any problems at all.

Bassani X, and as was mentioned, if you're running the smog pump still you'll need to fab up a connection from the smog tube to the midpipe. A high temp hose is an easy solution, but I managed to maneuver my smog line so that it lined up and matched the pipe coming off of the X. Probably not a perfect seal, but good enough. Other than that it's easy.

I just had a BBK offroad H pipe put on with magnaflow catback, I think it sounds great. Deep sounding, more sixties muscle sounding. I have BBK shorties, BBK off road H pipe and magnaflow exhaust. fitment was pretty good, my mechanic put it in for me as I was having new shocks and struts put on at the same time. he said it went in OK, the drivers side is a little low, but not much.

the sound is definitely improved, no leaks, and the power increase seems to be there as well.

Thanks for the replies. Is there any real difference in power between an O/R x and and O/R H pipe? What about the MAC prochamber. anyone know of hp gains with that?

didn't finish the question. did you have to remove it completely or take off and then back on?

I removed mine and said oh well. I can't feel a difference without it to be honest.

The main difference will be the sound. The h-pipe will sound more 'old school' while I think the x-pipe sounds a little racier. As for the pwoer difference probably very similar with each one, this has been debated about a thousand times.

I have a vert and run a Bassani O/R X with no fitment problems and it sounds great (I also run straight through mufflers). I would recommend an X-pipe with a straight through muffler like the magnaflows (they are straight through, right?), I would say an H-pipe for chambered mufflers.

I've got your twin car and I use a BBK off-road X. I love the sound and no fitment problems whatsoever.

X-Pipe

Josh94gt - I've got a 94 GT coup with FMS unequal shorties. I asked alot of questions, and then purchased a Bassani cat'd x-pipe. Liked it alot, good sound, and a little more hp.

Then I took that off, and went with the Basssani O/R X-pipe B/X - alumin. not SS. Purchased from Houston Performance for 213.00. No fitment issues, and what a sound !!! It's extremely raspy sounding, but still deep. It didn't loose any low end torque, and the motor breathes alot easier, meaning it winds up alot smoother and runs stronger.

I do think that an x pipe would sound awesome. but i'm just afraid it might be a little TOO raspy for me when i hear it on my car. but the main concern i had was the fitment issues. sounds to me like most people don't have too many problems, if any. anybody with the mac prochamber like that sound? i've read that it's sortof a cross between an x and an h pipe. although more $$$ too. i think right now i'm leaning towards bassani o/r x.....

i love the way my car sounds with the magnaflow catback and prochamber. It's decently quiet just cruising around but when I get on it, it sounds awesome.
