Which plugs for my 94 cobra?

Hi there guys!

As you can tell this is my first post. I am from the www.allfordmustangs.com forum. To be honest I always have a hard time getting a good response there so I decided to come to the dark side. lol j/k

My question is this. I installed nitrous on my car and I need to go one range cooler on the plugs. I don't know how much you non-SVT guys know about our cobra's but...STOCK they came with 32c plugs instead of the regular 42C plug that came in the reg. GT 5.0 cars. I am going to be spraying a 75 shot. So from my knowledge I think just one range cooler will do the job. You agree?!

So in light of that is the plug I need is a 22c? I know autolite makes motorcraft plugs, but which plug would you guys get of those two? Here is the other question. Online I have found quite a few different 22c plugs available. The #'s that come before the 22c part are all different. Like ASWG, ASFG, etc, etc, or something similar. Whats the diff and which one is correct?

I run a gt40 head off a 95 cobra and use a NGK plug, the stock range plug is a tr5. One range or step colder in ngk is a tr6. I run the tr6 as I too have a bottle kit.


FWIW you could prob. run the stock plug heat range on a 75 shot. However, nothing wrong with being extra safe.

gap the plug for .35 or so as the bottle press. can "blow out" the spark at the stock gap range.

i ran iron gt 40's off a lighnitng and i used stock replacement copper autolites gapped at .035 with a 150 shot

Stock replacment Autolights are Part Number: 764 so you go to the next number down 763 or what ever the next number down is. STock Autolight for gt's are 25 so the colder plug for us is Autolights 24. You get the picture...

yep most brands drop numericly(sp?) when getting colder. It is worth posting that NGK is backward from the rest, in that as the plug gets "colder" the number goes up.

You need the 22Cs but you need the tapered fit plugs not the gasketed ones. I cant remember if the ASWG or the ASFG is gasketed. Go to a Ford dealer and see if they can help you. I run the gasketed 22C because of my Edelbrock heads, but standard OEM Ford heads use the tapered fit plugs.

Autolite 103's are 1 heat range colder.
Thats what I used w/ my s-trim & gt-40 heads, but I just recently switched over to the Denso Iridiums IT20, I believe gapped @ .032", car revs up really nice now w/ no breakup up to 6000.

Sooo the autolite 103's are one range colder than the stock 32c's?? Don't they have an AR103 or something too? Just a regular 103 or that AR103?

Just go tom the parts store and tell them you need autolite 103's

I went to AutoZone yesterday and picked up the Autolite 103's. Do you guys still agree that these plugs are one range cooler than the stock cobra plugs? and 2 ranges cooler than the stock GT 5.0 plugs? Just want to make sure one last time before I throw them in there this weekend. I really don't want to mess any thing up... Thanks guys

one range colder than stock cobra plugs---yes

2 ranges colder than a GT, I dont think its an apple to apple comparo? as the threads and depth are diff. IIRC and that is why its a diff. plug in the cobra anyway. So in short its not the same "family" of plugs to just say its 2 colder than a gt.

1 range colder should be fine
