which pump to get for NX ? How to prevent running lean ?

Hey guys, I was wondernig what would flow better; the stock pump with a BAP, or a SVT focus pump w/o the BAP? Cause I know the BAP's are around $200, while the SVT pumps are $90 from Randy. Is there a difference between the GT40 pump and the Ford GT pump, or are they the same thing? What LPH do they flow at? I'll be running a 100 shot for now with the NX plate kit, but might have a SC planned for the future, or more n2o, so I might as well get the right pump now.

Also, What can I do to prevent lean spikes? I heard a lot of people leaning out with the new plate kit on 99+ GT's (damn returnless style!!!). Should I shorten the fuel lines that run to the solenoid and put the fuel solenoid directly on the plate? I read that suggestion on MD. Anyway guys, thanks for any help!

I'm running the svt focus pump. But if I was to do it over again I'd go with the GT pump. as you can see the Gt pump flows ALOT more fuel.

This info is from corral this is actual flow data:
Ford GT @ 40 psi - 435 lph
Ford GT @ 60 psi - 381 lph
Ford GT @ 80 psi - 324 lph

SVT Focus @ 40 psi - 217 lph
SVT Focus @ 60 psi - 185 lph
SVT Focus @ 80 psi - 143 lph

Shortening the fuel line is the best way to help the lean spike. NX also came out with a small reserve fuel cell (like a syringe) that sat at the fuel rail tap that would probably fix it all together. Its called a Fuel Accumulator and the part number is SPEED00010.

Hmm...thanx for the input guys. I think I'll go with the GT pump since it looks like it flows a lot better than the SVT. An trigz...I'll check out the NX site and see if I can find that adapter your talking about :nice:

Ford GT pump need some modifying to fit in the GT basket...and dont push the hat (the line that connects to the pump) ALL the way down on the GT pump...basically the pumps spout is just flared at the end, and if the hat is pushed down too far on the pump, that flared part slips past the metal sealing area in the hat and it wont hold fuel pressure.

Go to www.modularfords.com and search for "Ford GT fuel pump" and you should find plenty of info...and the pictures I took oh how I set mine up :nice:

Hey man, I got some questions for you.

1. Did you use the gt40 filter with the pump, or the filter from the stocker (looks pretty cramped in the basket)?

2. I know female connectors must be soldered onto the stock wiring, but which wires from the gt40 pump connect to the stock wiring?

3. Should I put holes like you did in the basket? Is this because the pump draws fuel from the basket too quickly at WOT? Will it be necessary for my n2o setup?

4. So with the hat, you just put it over the gt40 "flared" spout enough to where you can't see the flare anymore?

5. In that thread, modded46 says "were you able to screw in the two 5mm screws that hold down the part of the hose that attaches to the pump and cover". And you reply with "Yes they will go....but I did some cutting/notching on the plastic so the pump comes through the hole better".

Can you take pics of the part you cut?

1. I havnt installed the pump yet, but I am going to use the filter that comes with the GT pump. Its VERY free flowing and as long as you dont run the tank empty, it should be pulling gas in fine.

2. There are tiny + and - signes on the GT pump next to eah connection. Judging from the wring on the stock basket, RED goes to the + and BLACK goes to the -.

3. You should drill 1 hole (vs my 2) up kinda high (where I drilled mine). I think I may have went a bit overboarded lol...SO you should have a total of 3 holes. View attachment 440634 .

4. No, you want it about a 1/4 inch gap between the bottom of the hat and the top of the basket (not all the way down) .

5. I posted that before I found out that a guy lost fuel pressure because he had the flared part pushed too far into the hat, and as you can see the metal ring doesnt go all the way to the top. You should be able to see how far the metal goes up VS how long the spout is, and see that 1/4 inch should do it. :nice:

Ok and here is the part that I cut...note that this is with the focus pump in. But thats the area I cut out (in red) to allow the little metal prongs to be free on the GT pump. View attachment 440636

Hope this helps you out mang :nice: Feel free to ask me anymore questions if you need anything :flag: .

Thanks for clearing that up man! Still a few more questions though :bang: In pic #2 (top to bottom) are those two flap things "pickups" or filters? They both go inside the basket, right? Bacause in pic #4, it looks like there's another one sticking out from the bottom  .

And will the FPDM be fine? I know some people had to mod their setup's with aviator pumps.

They are filters...the pump actually picks up from the bottom, and the entire white filter has tiny holes everywhere. You can block off 1 flap by bending it up and crimping any air flow...then put your mouth over the whole in the filter (where it connects to the fuel pump) and you can breath VERY freely. I really cant feel any restriction like you would thing...they dont seem to be like normal filters.

The inline (brand new) filter is 20X harder to blow/breath through.

In pic # 4, thats the filter thats connected to your stock basket....I mean its rediculous, 3 darn seperate filters in our systems haha.

Ah ok, so the inline/fuel pump filters are inside the basket, and the basket filter is obviously on the basket. That is pretty crazy, but I guess they do it for a reason. I remember my Mitsu 3000GT fuel pump had just 1 filter...that's why this one had me confused. Oh well, It'll make a lot more sense once I pull the stock pump out. GT40 pump is still coming in the mail. 870 LPH baby!!! :SNSign:

Thanks for your bro!

No problem! :nice:

And just to be clear,

The inline fuel filter is outside of your gas tank.
The fuel pump filter is on the fuel pump
The basket filter is connected to the basket.

O ok...I was confused about the inline filter because it wasn't pictured. I R stoopid:bang:

The SVT Focus pump will work great and you could get
it from Randy for a good price. Also I don't see why you
couldn't use it with a supercharger in the future if that
is what you plan on doing Tanner. How is your Nitrous Express
kit coming along? Did you get it tuned?
