This isn't exactly a Mustang, but a Mustang drivetrain question. I'm in the process of swapping an '87 5.0 motor backed by a C4 into a 1980 Pinto. The motor was removed form a friend's stang that is getting a 429 transplant. The 5.0 is basically a stock rebuilt motor with very mild port work done to the stock E7 heads (mostly just removing the EGR bumps) and an E303 cam. He used a 3500 stall converter and a Victor JR intake. The intake is too tall for me and the converter seems way to loose in my opinion. I would like to put the tightest converter I could behind the motor without any low speed/idling drivability issues due to the larger cam. Basically I'm down to the TCI Sizzler at 1700 stall and the Saturday Night Special at 2000 stall. The little Pinto is aimed more at a cruiser than a racer (as my wife will also drive it) and I hate mushy high stall converters (I'm a stick guy at heart). Any thoughts on the best converter?
