I'm getting a set of detroit buillet rims 17x9's and I'm thinking about tires. I don't want anything too expensive, but I want something that will grip well and won't spin bad off the line. My boss said Toyo's are good, but I was wondering what you guys suggest..also, what size?

275's Nitto Drag radials in the rear and 245's or 255's regular nitto in front ?

Yup. Nitto 555Rs would be great. Another good choice would be 555R-IIs, which feature the same soft drag radial compound but have stiffer sidewalls for improved handling.

I'd love to run drag slicks, but I need something that's a good street legal tire... Maybe on 2 of my old rims i'll put drag tires for those fun nights in the city. :-D

For the money, Kuhmo's are tough to beat...nice pattern on em. price is great for a Z rated tire, and they wear good....I pulled 1.9 60s on em to boot...
245 were like 104.00 each...

Uh...Nitto 555Rs or 555R-IIs aren't even close to being "drag slicks". They are 100% street legal and even do okay in the rain. They are a true radial tire.

Nitto 555R (NOT a "drag slick"):

Mickey Thomson ET Street (more like a "drag slick"):

Go with the Nittos.

Hrm, the nitto's are sexy... where can I get a set? Where I work we don't carry them.

i have sumitomo's on mine...their not bad for how cheap they are. Only $110 for 315/35/17 and $98 for 275/40/17. PLus then you dont have to worry about doing burnouts etc .

Hrm, the life on the nittos is only 15,000... That's kinda erm...****ty.. I'd rather have a good looking tire with decent life.. don't forget, i have the stock 17x9 rims also, I can just throw a set of street-drag tires on 2 of them.

Any suggested sizes? I want something that looks nice.

I made the same decision on tires about 6 months ago with my 17x9 03 cobras. I went 275/40 all around, and i'm glad I did. I can still rotate 'em, there is no bulging, and no streching. It fills the back wheel well sooooo much better than the 245's.

Everyone worries about the front rubbing. Mine barely rub a tiny bit only at full wheel lock, with a 1.5 inch drop(Eibach pro kit). No big deal at all. If you want bigger tire in the back, go with 265/40's in front (eliminate any possible rubing), and 285/40's in back.
