Whining from Tranny on my 00 GT

My 5 speed is making a whine that is getting louder. It occurs in 5th gear around 60mph+ and starts to go away when i go slower than that. I can hear it a little in 4th, but only at higher speeds. 1st, 2nd and 3rd I don't hear it. The noise is pretty loud now and only appears when I'm on the gas. If I lift the throttle and let the car decelerate, the noise disappears. I'm going to change my tranny fluid tonight, maybe it's shot or low. Any suggestions as to a cause?

maybe bearings how many miles you got on it. also might want to go have it checked out.

Have 100k on it. What kind of cost should I expect to have the bearings replaced?

Change the fluid and go from there.

Whining isn't always bearings, it could be clash from the actual gears that make the noise.

Do you have an aftermarket shifter? They sometimes amplify vibrations. Shifter gaskets sometimes help

Yeah, I have a tri-ax shifter. But it wasn't this noisy before. Maybe I'll put a gasket in there in addition to the fluid change.

Fluid level could be low. That's the 1st thing to check. Pilot bearing may be the culprit also.

I know putting the new fluid in can be a pain. I had a small nozzle on the end of my bottle when I did it. that helped alot.

Jus sayin I got a 00' gt and it could be bearings. But checkin fluid don't hurt.
