Who has cut there rear springs?

It can be done, I've done it many times. Just depends how much you want to lower it. For example: I just did a friends car and cut one and a half coils out of the front and one and quarter out of the back. Also get the car on level pavement before and measure the height to make sure all sides are fairly even. Its easier to just buy a set of springs in my opinion!!

What kind of handling are you looking at after you cut them. I'm pretty poor right now, but hate the way my car looks like a 4x4. I would think it would probably handle about the same. Reason being: Cutting the springs will lower the center of gravity, increasing handling. However, they are still the same crappy spring rate since they are stock, so it would be worse. For some reason I think the benefit and the loss will even each other out. Am I close?

Sbrown38: How much did that lower the car you are talking about? I just want to take out some of the fender gap, and not have to worry about getting caster/camber plates yet until I get real lowering springs.

Thanks

Cutting springs will increase the spring rate, making the ride harsh, and bouncy. I don't think he is talking about stock springs. It's very common that cars with "C" springs sit higher in the rear. My springs were cut 1 coil I think, in the rear to make it sit evenly with the front, and it does just that.

My brother put cut '94 Cobra springs in his car and when he hit a bump it was REALLY hard, it almost hurts, lol and it's much harder tan my car rides, yet I think my car handles better with the right springs.

cutting springs is a baaaaad idea.. if you cut them too short, they dont resist bounce more just because there shorter.. they actually bounce just as much, all you have done is made your chances of bottoming out a lot higher. the spring has a sprung weight.. and when you cut them, the sprung weight is the same but it has less distance to compress, so you will either bottom the springs out or bottom the car out tearing up your cradle, tranny, rear end, exhaust, fuel and or brake lines... cutting springs is a bad idea, wait till you save the money for some shorter aftermarket springs.
