I am curious as to who hear things they are in need of bigger brakes and why? If you don't need it, it may add a little bling, but it is also significant amoutns of unsprung weight too.

Well, you don't need a KB either, but everyone here wants one. That adds weight too.

I got the cobra brakes up front and I'm impressed. The difference between larger brakes and the normal ones is not just that it stops quicker, but you have MUCH more control over how much pressure is being applied. If you press the brake in a little, it stops a little, it's completely variable. But if you really get on the brakes, you're going to have 2 red marks on your chest for a while. (granted you were wearing your seatbelt)

All 96-98 GT's could greatly benefit from upgraded braking

If I had to do it again, it would be one of my FIRST upgrades!

All depends on what you do with your car. I love to hit the twisties, and if I am really hard into some esses, where you are hard on the brakes, back on the gas hard, then back to brakes, I can have my pedal go to the floor and the light on the dash will come on. At this point the car will barely stop. Now mind you, I have been racing different kinds of cars for about 12 years, and may drive a little harder than most on the street.

I have been collecting parts for my new brakes, and plan to have them on before I start driving it again in spring. I found an NOS set of S351 Saleen/Alcon 4 piston front calipers, and have ordered 13" plated and drilled rotors from Baer to go with them, then in the rear I ordered a matching set of rotors. I am currently researching pads. Once I can get the car to actually stop when driving hard, I will end up taking it to the track on Ford or Mustang days to play.

Some brakes actually reduce weight.. They may be bigger, but they're lighter. Not all, but some

i could use some bigger brakes to slow me down quicker after the 1/4mi. the stock brakes really suck over 110mph.

I need em. I've currently got the same size 4-wheel disk system that a Mustang GT has...but my Cougar is a little on the "portly" side. I’ll probably swap them out to Cobra units once I scrap a little extra money together.

Drive a Mach 1 or a Cobra and you'll quickly realize that bigger brakes feel much better. That will be my next mod.

I've faded my GT's brakes plenty of time during those summer nights at 2AM when nobody is on the highway or some of my favorite twisty roads. Laying on the brakes hard at 90MPH+ usually leaves them faded by the time i enter my turn at 45MPH.

I agree, for normal stop and go commuter traffic you don't need them, but for those who like to open their cars up from time to time they offer a huge performance benefit. They may not significantly reduce your 1 time stopping distance, but they eliminate fade.

I have CObra disks on my 3000 pound Fox. I love the feel of having so much brake that i can lay into them hard and always have the power there. I hop in my 3600 pound GT and after 1 or 2 hard stops the fade is kinda scary.

my brakes have very little fade. when optn tracking you jsut have to make sure to bleed them when you get home. also use a brake fluid with a lot higher dry boiling temp.

I need bigger brakes for all of those mountain runs. Fade sucks.

Will if you like to hit corners then you will find out the brakes on the MOD cars are better than a fox but still not great. One late night me and my buddy went out "playing" on some dark, curvy country roads. Well I quickly learned I couldn't use his braking point, his Cobra brakes just rape my stock GT brakes.

I have 13" drilled and slotted fronts and CObra rears. With the steel braided lines get a nice firm pedal. Also can brake hard over and over with no fade. Im getting ready for some Auto-X and Open track events. Now I just need to save up for a 6 speed.

Screw brakes! I have NEVER had a problem with mine fading, even ran to 148 before (long time ago...dont hate) and wailed on the breaks pretty good. Not a problem, slowed to 55 DARN fast. My breaks are staying stock for a long time, I see no need for better ones.....now my 66 is a different story they fade pretty bad at high speed.

And come on, the KB comparo is retarded! It adds weight, but it also gives you 150HP LOL. His point was obviouly the heavy breaks will slow the car down (both when on or off the breaks)...KB doesnt slow the car down. Unless you like that auto cross stuff (which is HARD on your car...wouldnt attempt that with a KB on the stock engine btw) you really dont need them. I believe Jims LOW 10 secong GT still has the stock breaks also.
