who is running a 28" tire for the track.

My MT ET Streets just came in (well 1 of them got here) and I discovered that it was 28 and not a 26" tire. Should their be any fitment issues with the SN95 and how will a 28" tire co inside with 3.73 gears?

Nacho (95vert) went from a 26" to a 27" and it did hurt his average times... can't imagine going to a 28".

i vote for getting them to send you the 26's

They sent me the right ones, I just didnt realize they were 28's until after I got them. I'll give them a call today.

I run 28" tires on my car front and rear at the track. They might be a little tight out back but they should work ok. I think they are definitely more tire than you need, but they will fit.

I've always heard that roughly every 1" in tire height difference is equal to ~.12pt of a gear ratio, so your 3.73's would be closer to a 3.49:1 assuming going from a 26" tall tire to a 28" and not factor in tire growth. 28" is better if you gear it accordingly as they normally hook better, but without the gear they will slow you down. My dad swithced from a 26" to a 27" tire and the car LOVED it, but he runs 4.30 gears. The car went from a 11.8 to an 11.6 with no other changes, his 60' dropped conciderably with the taller tire.

If you want a serious stick car, a 28" tall tire and proper gearing is where its at IMO.

I know thats what Im worried about, I'll feel as though the 3.73's will be a waste since Im going from 3.27 to 3.73

Thats the thing is that I probably dont have the proper gearing to go with the 28's so it will probably hurt me more then help me at this poing.


I got a return # today so I can send them back and I did get the second tire today as well. On a better note my Moser 31 splines came in


BTW: If I get 275/50/15 ET Street with a rim diameter of 8.5 will they fit on a 8" rim? The rims Im getting are 15X8 and I wanted to stay with the 275 tire but the only one I saw that is for a 26" tire is also for a 8.5 rim????

You would need some 4.30s at least for those 28" tires, get the 26s. I run 4.56 gears with my 28s.

The 28's are all tapped up and ready to be sent back tomorrow I wont have time to do it today.


Any comments as far as a tire made for a 8.5 rim going on a 15X8 rim? I know it will bludge a little but is it of any serious concern? Id hate to have to get a new set of rims as well.

You need a 275/50-15 and it will fit an 8" wide wheel just fine.

Once I get the 28's sent back I am getting a set of 275/50/15, those are the ones that fit for the 8.5 rim so at least I know Im all set there.
