This is the AC system on my 66. The controls and one vent are mounted in the little box under the ignition switch and the main box with evaporator and two vents is under the glove box. The two components are jointed by a temp sensor line, wiring and the flexible hose.
The compressor is aluminum (made in Japan), by "TAMA".
There IS pressure at the schrader valve so it is possible that this thing works. Car was more or less dead engine when I bought it so no time to test the ac.
I wonder who sold this, it screams Montgomery Wards to me! Many of you may not remember monkey Wards.
So, what I have been thinking is to get a normal evaporator / blower unit that fits right under the dash above the console and get rid of the two boxes. I suppose this all depends on whether the compressor is good or not.
Also I really would not like to cut the console, maybe just remove it all together????
(I have the heater box out for refurb so the evaporator is setting on a piece of wood right now.
