I've been looking for 17"x10" wheels with about a 6" backspacing ... can't find any!

I know Bogart could make me some, but at $480 ea, I'd rather find something off-the-shelf.

The AFS Cobra R's are very close, but they're 17x10.5.

Weld doesn't have any.

Any suggestions?

Go with the AFS 17x10.5's. I have their 18x10.5's with 295/35/18 rubber and it's way too thin IMO. At first, I thought it was wide as hell, and looked awesome, now it looks like they shrank.

Which leads me to my question...is it possible for tires to get "thinner", by their sidewall thinning out or something. I mean they looked much wider when I first got them.

When the tyre loses some of its tread, it WILL look smaller. Especially the tread along the corners .... that will make them look thinner.
17x10s anyone?

edited to spell it 'tyre' ... so the stupid system doesn't automatically put a link on the word that I didn't want there.

should also consider that the first time you see something it always looks more impressive than once you get used to seeing it.

True True.

Paul, my Kumho MX's wear out like butter, they are almost as bad as a drag radial. Regarding the wheels, why not consider the AFS 17x10.5's??? I don't see your reasoning behind not doing this? If anything, the .5" extra width is good.

I think the AFS wheels are fairly heavy, but I haven't found out just HOW heavy yet.
I did, however, discover a web site with lots of wheels listed and their weights;

http://www.wheelweights.net and

HRE's and Fiskes are about $1,000 EACH

my 18x9s weigh 25.5lbs each and my 18x10.5's 28.5lbs each.

We don't have to worry about how much a rim weighs as much as small displacement imports do, but probably have to worry more than big torque 5.7L GM's. My 18x10.5's paired with the 295/35's weigh a whopping 61lbs each. I'm sure its hurting performance a little, but the nominal strain on acceleration is made up for the looks, and also the much better traction.
