Paint and Body Who Wants To Know What Paint Shop To Choose?

Hey all, I'm talking to a guy on FEP about choosing the right repair facility to have his vehicle painted.

It really is a long discussion i'm having with him and I thought this might make a good thread that I would separate from my Fox Body Paint 101 thread since it deals more with where to take your car as opposed on how to paint it.

Anyone interested? It'll help you understand what happens in repair facilities I believe.

Me me me me!!! I'll be visiting a few shops today, kind of going in blind and hoping I meet someone I like. I need to start working with the shop that is going to paint my car so I use materials and processes they approve of.

YES. While I'm willing to attempt the body work on my '66 myself, I don't think I'd be able to put a nice paint job on it. I at least don't want it to be the first car I paint if I ever do decide to try it.

You can paint your own car, if you are willing to put the time and effort it takes, most don't have the time it takes to practice or lack the confidence. As dave will attest, most of the time is spent in the prep, I grew up around a body shop and I have very little experience in body and paint, good paint work does not cover bad body work.
I want to see what the body/paint look like after a couple years.

True, sht paint job can make good bodywork look pretty lame.

Nope, means more work. This won't be about the details of how a shop runs or what an individual tech would do.

There's just a lot to consider when you're getting your car painted.
