ok I know there are 2 sides to every story so I will post the actual e-mails and let you guys make your own decision. Ive been selling off my stock 16" Pony rims 2 sold on ebay and another guy contacted me and said if he could have just one. I said thats fine since the last one has bad curb rash and prob no one wants it ( he just wanted it for a spare) The deal was to sell it to him for $25 and $15 for shipping. At the last min he asked if he could also have the tire that came w/ it, I said fine ( I dident charge him for the tire, just wanted to get paid shipping for it) So I said throw in an extra $5 for the tire( even thogh I know it would have prob been like $10) for a total of $45 and we will call it good. Turns out I had a prob shipping the tire, I'll let the e-mails do the explaining. He thinks Im trying to screw him but I think I did him a favor, tell me what you think.

1ST E-MAIL AFTER I SENT THE RIM.......

Sorry it took a few days to get back to you, I Sent out the rim on Saturday, Ive just been busy over the weekend. I did run into a problem. I dident ship the tire b/c I dident realize that its so expensive to ship tires. According to UPS it costs $10 + the cost of Shipping just to ship a damn tire, dont ask me why its like that seems werid to me. So in all it would have cost about $25 just to ship that tire out of a box, he said the cost of a box to ship the tire in costs about as much and I dont have any boxes big enough to put it in. The Rim is on its way but I figured you would want to save some money and not pay an additional $25 just to get a used tire when you can prob get one for free else were. The tracking # for the rim is listed below.

HIS RESPONSE................

so, as i understand it, you are sending me only a rim, where we had an agreement for a rim and tire.

two questions:

so, i am still paying $20 to ship just the rim, when you said it would be $20 for the weight of rim and tire?? and am i paying $25 for just the rim? we had agreed on $25 for a tire and a rim!

why didn't you ask me first if this was OK, before you decided to change the deal?? actually, i would have scrubbed the deal if it was just a rim.

MY RESPONSE............

I took the Tire off at VIP ( place like NAPA except they do automotive work) They dident charge me to take the tire off the rim. I couldent send the tire and rim in one box b/c the size box I was using was the ones that my 17" rims came in and a rim w/ the tire on it will not fit in the box so I figured Id ship the rim in the box and they will just ship the tire as is b/c thats how I recived them when I orderd them. They had plastic wrap on them w/ the tracking # info on the tire. I figured thats how they ship tires. I had no Idea that UPS has addition cost for shipping tires above and beyond the regualar clost of shipping. Please feel free to call UPS and confirm this yourself but it cost $10 + the cost of shipping for a tire. Like I said I could not ship the tire on the rim b/c I did not have a big enough box they it would fit it. The cost of Shipping was $15.75 and you paid me $20 for shipping, Id be more then happy to send you the $5 back to you. I just dident think it would cost that much to ship a damn tire

Im not trying to rip you off, If I was I would have sent you the tire and said to you....oh yeah by the way you owe me an extra $25 for shipping from the tire. If you still want it thats fine but I wasent going to stick you w/ you oweing me more money unless it was ok w/ you first.

HIS NEXT E-MAIL..........

travis-

i have seen others that tightly wrap the tire/wheel combo in a black plastic bag, and then there is no extra charge. simple solution.

so, sounds like you were trying to make the best out of the situation. please send me the $5 difference in shipping costs:

MY LAST E-MAIL I SENT THIS MORN..............

I'll galdly send you the other $5 that you over paid for shipping. I dident have an over sized bag either to ship them in . I dont see why you expected me to send you the tire when you paid $5 to have it shipped ( which was ok w/ me b/c I figured it would prob cost more like $10 but I was cutting you a deal) and then to find out that it was going to cost me $10 to ship it + the cost of shipping. Are you saying that if you were in the same sisuation that you would have paid the extra $25 out of your own pocket just to ship the tire to me???? Call your local UPS store yourself and confirm what Ive told you all along about the shipping rates for tires. If there was a way that I could have sent the tire and rim together then I would have, the UPS store that I use dident give me any other options.

I dont get it, if I was trying to screw you I would have sent you the tire and then kept the recipt for proof and then told you I wanted the extra money for shipping it, I was doing you a favor by not sending it when you can go to any local gas station and pick up a used 16" tire and have it put on that rim. Do you really want to pay $25 just to ship a used tire when you can grab one almost anywhere for free?? Sorry you dont get it but I suppose this is what happnes when you try to do the right thing.

So whos In the wrong? Did I do the right thing by not sending it and trying to explain to him why or is he just being stubborn and difficult? Oppions please.....

Travis.

i think u are right, and that guy just seems like an idiot.

The tire was A GIFT, IT WAS FREE, its not like I charged him extra for it, I still only charged him $25 for the rim. I dont know who would want to spend $25 just to ship a used tire when you can prob get them for free and in not much better condition then the one I had was.

I disagree with the way you made a deal -- you came up with a price and he agreed on it -- then you changed it after you found out how much it was going to cost (should have done homework).

BUT, since you offerred to send him back the original money (I would have stuck it in the box) and go back to the original deal, I think you're kind of ok there.

I think he was also thinking the tire was still mounted.

Thanks for the replys, I like the offer of sending him $5 in pennys and charging him for the shipping :rlaugh: I know whe was "expecting" the tire as well but first of all he dident even have to pay for it and how many of you would have shelled out the $25 on the spot to ship it to him w/ no guarantee that he was going to pay you back for it?

Do my home work?? how often do you check w/ UPS before you ship something? I know I dont I just box it up bring it in and ship it.

I sold locally a complete EFI wiring harness for $125. This thing goes for like $500. Well I threw in a EEC that came with it when I bought it. A month later the guy wants half the money back because the EEC didn't work. I'm like dood the EEC was a gift you didn't pay anything for it, I was going to throw it away. I laughed my ass off on that one. Note to self-Do not throw in any freebies.

I totally agree. Kinda a miscomunication on how the deal was made. The guy didnt really do anything wrong. Why not check UPS for shipping before you ship it?

b/c like I said before I was on my way to a weekend BBQ and if I dident ship it out on that day ( sat ) then it would not have been shipped out until today and we had been talking through e-mail for along time and we both just wanted it shipped. I may have been wrong for " assuming" that it wouldent cost much to ship the tire but hey Im not friggin perfect we all make mistakes, all Im saying is that I belive Im in the right for not sending it to him and sticking him w/ a bill for anohter $25 for him to owe me. At least I shipped out the rim insted of doing nothing at all.

correct you are in the right as far as not sticking him with that 25 bucks. Yes and we all make mistakes, Ive had my share too. Atleast your a good enough person to say hey ill give ya back the 5 bucks man.

It all falls back on you here. You're right you shouldn't have stuck him with the bill -- if you stuck by the deal you made YOU would have paid it. You made the deal -- you should have stuck by it. You're lucky it was just a 'gift' so he can't really be too upset, but if it was me, I'd feel the same way. You re****ed on the deal, the other guy did nothing wrong.

On top of that, you weren't even going to send him back his $5 unless he asked for it...were you just going to keep it as a bonus???

Nobody's perfect, but there is something to be said for owning up to your mistakes.

what you should have said was let me find out about shipping the tire and ill give you an exact amount.

But since he wants his money back i would go down to the UPS store or Mail Box Etc, by an envelope and a stamp with his $5 get the change and the reciept and put it in the envelope and send it back that way.
