Who's running 275's on stock 17x8 wheels?

I know that 275/40/17 is technically too wide for an 8" wheel, but i know guys have done it.

I'm concerned with handling though, not just the fat tire look. With all that sidewall bulge, it would seem to have an awfully lot of sidewall flex in hard turns as the tires try to roll over on themselves.

Anyone running 275's all around?


If i can get away with it without negative effects i might go for it, otherwise i'll stick to 245

I'm doing 255-40-17 on the stock rim and have no buldge. What I like about the 255's over the 245's, is that they don't get stuck in as many ruts as the smaller tires, they just kinda ride over them. And if you know how horrible california's roads are, that is a VERY good thing. I'm sure you could go 265, but I guess the width varys a little from brand to brand. I would defainately say go with at least 255's, I really did notice a difference from the 245's, in ride, and grip.

i got 275's out back and i they buldge out a bit but not a whole lot when taking a corner hard they do flex and it feels like the ass end is about to give, but they stay planted to the ground. They also do provide good traction for the straightaways

I plan on throwing the 275 nitto 555r i got in the garage on in about a week. I cant get traction 1st or 2nd with my current 255 comp tas.

I have 275 mickey thompson ET streets on stock 17x8 wheels. They work great! Most tires have a +/- 1" width rule for the reccomended tire, so it should be good to go with 275's, especially Nittos or other brands that run small.

I thought about 255's but i didn't want to toss the speedo off any. I know it's only a 0.4" difference but even that would bug me

I don't really drag race my car, so i'm not looking for traction. I'm more concerned with handling really. Does it feel looser in turns?

Unfortunately, I don't have any pics of when I had the 275s on my stock bullitts, but they looked awesome. The bulge looked sweet, and they filled out the back of the car nicely. Just put some 255s up front, and you will love the stance. Or, if you are a corner carver, put 275s all around. You can still rotate your tires that way.

is a 255 45 17 the same size sidewall as a 275 40 17?

my old DR's were 275/40 mounted on the stocker 17x8. I really only used them at the track though.. I did drive on them a time or two, didn't seem to bad. They're pretty dirty in these pics..

not 100%

45% of a 255 is 114.75mm

40% of a 275 is 110mm

It's about a 5mm difference in sidewall height, or 10mm overall..about 1/2"

i wonder if it would be noticable. i have a set of 255 45 17 on the back right now and they have about half tread left. i need new front tires. if i got some new 275 40 17 would it look strange from the side if i moved the 255 45 to the front and put the 275 40 on the back?

I got falken 451 245/45/17 front and nitto 555R 275/40/17 back

If i do this i most likely will go with 275's all around so i can rotate the tires.

I had the exact same problem with my t/a's, I could spin all for days in second, but I put on 275 Kumho's and now I can scratch them but not the spinning like before. I had some nitto dr's on here before the t/a's and sweet Lord what a tire!!! I wish I could still justify them.

My 275's will roll over just a slight bit but once you get them leaned over they don't let go.

Mike I am running 255/45/17's all around.
They seem to fit better than my 245's did
go figure lol.I don't have any sidewall bulge
with the Goodyear F1 GS D3's.If you plan on
running 275's pick a narrow tire like Nitto,
Kumho etc.
