Who's running a CHP or a HPE (horsepower engineering) 347 shortblock?

Just wondering who's using any of these shortblocks? Hows it working out for you? How many miles? I want to get a 347 shortblock with a cast crank. I dont need a forged crank, thats overkill and adds to cost. I need a good reliable shortblock that has NO issues and doesn't use any oil and has good internals. CHP uses RPM stuff and HPE uses eagle from what I read on they're site. Are these brands made in america? I want to stay away from over sea's stuff in my motor. My hp goals are about 400rwhp and shift points no higher than 6200 rpm. I emailed both places.

What happened to the 408? at 6200rpms my 418 made 570fwhp, from 5000-6800 made over 500 (pulled to only 6800). Toque was over 500 from 4600-5900. Have you considered DSS?

mikey..... what the matter sick of the 302??? what about your nitrous?, if u get that tuned you have more than a 347 can give u. i personally would pass on a dss motor, if u search on here u will read more bad than good. just my opinion, if i were to go with one it probally would be chp, are u wanting the 347 emissions block or just a 347? im me when u get a chance. later Bob

Mike- I thought hard about it and its just too much money for me. That power is just out-right awesome, but its more than I need or want right now. Not interested in dss especially since they costed my friend a huge huge headache. They put TW specific pistons in his 306 shortblock but he had edelbrock heads and he ended up smacking a valve into a piston. He had to pull the whole motor out and send it back. What a fuggin headache. They're priced a little higher too and I heard more good about CHP than dss.

Bob- I just pulled the nitrous and shipped it out Tuesday. I want a nice n/a street car. All my n2o wiring is still in place though No, I don't want that emissions 347, I think thats more for cali cars where its more strict for emissions. I dont think its anything really different for performance.

bln92- If I ever did a blown 306 or a blown stroker it certainly wouldnt be in a stock block, so that rules that out, too expensive. I want a n/a car.

Have you thought of letting a local machine shop do the work? I had mine done locally and three years later it is running fine. It is a 347, I used a good crank and rods but put in Keith Black hypereutectic pistons. I wasn't going to add a power adder and I didn't want that piston slap when it was cold but, that was three years ago and the technology has greatly improved since then.

Mine doesn't make a great deal of power however, it makes butt loads of torque. Last dyno was 310 hp and 380 ft torque and that was through an aode tranny and 2500 P.I. stall.

Mine is streetable but I have 4:10 gears and on the interstate it isn't bad but I think they are a little too steep for highway driving but I did average 22 mpg on a trip to Atlanta. I think it was over 450 miles round trip.

I have heard good things about CHP but not so many on DSS. Good luck in whatever you choose.

Is there such a thing

As far as DSS I've never dealt with them, never heard too much though. What about Keith Craft or D&D or Panhandle performance or Fox Lake. Just some others out there i'm sure you are aware of. Are you going to re-use you're top end? Good luck.

got a chp 347 with a main support running a v-1 vortech and boostmaster pipe putting out 9lbs of boost. So far so good. I figure I'm around 500rwhp.

bmo, did you go for the cast rotating assembly or the 4340 forged? I'm probably going to go with the cast kit as its cheaper, lighter and more than strong enough for my goals. I was quoted $2,250 for the cast 347 street fighter shortblock with a main support and arp studs.

I'm thinking about getting the 347 and throwing on my TFS heads and buying an RPM 2 intake, a 75mm TB and another FTI cam for now. I cant afford to spend $1700 on a set of FTI stroker prepped 185 heads now, so i'm gonna stick with what i have and sell my currect tfs intake, 65mm TB and FTI cam. I'd like to see around 360hp/375tq to the wheels. As time and budget allows, upgrade headers, heads and cam and shoot for 400+ rwhp. I need a new tranny as well, im thinking the G-force T5 with some extra upgrades or a TKO-500 tremec.

i'd say go for the CHP shortblock. that's a great price. i'm building a 347 from CHP. i had a local shop do most of the block work(i chased the threads and clearanced the cylinder bottoms for the stroker kit), and will have them balance the whole assembly once i decide on a damper/clutch/aluminum flywheel combo. i prefer to build my own engines but for that price, go for it! less time consuming and possibly cheaper.

for heads have you checked out Pro Topline heads? they flow almost with AFR and are MUCH cheaper! http://www.protopline.com

D & D carries them for $1300 loaded. they have 180's up to 215's for that price. http://www.dndmotorsports.com/?page...3&ps_session=788e8c811ff716936d37052f06cb45a0

good luck

Thats a great price mike, also you can always send you're heads out to TEA when funds permit. Stan, who built my engine just did a dart block based, forged 347, with TEA heads, a "X" cam , and a dual plane intake. Motor made 440fwhp, not bad for a mild setup. FWIW, the heads flowed close to 300cfm.

I actually have a hybred kit that the engine builder bought directly from them, I went with their forged probe pistons, forged ultra lite 4030 rods, and their cast crank, topped off with a main support and arp studs.

And the tranny question, I love my tko-500 but, and its a big but tremec is slow as hell in producting these things. I orded mine back when they announced there so called production back in jan, and it took 4 months to get one, I also hear now that people still have problems getting them. So if you do go with one don't plan on driving your car any time soon, unless your sure the place you bought it has one in stock.

That sounds like the kit I intend on using from CHP. The cast crank, forged 5.315" H beams and forged probe pistons. From emaling HPE back n forth my decision is to have them build my shortblock using the probe 347 kit with the forged 5.315 shorter rod. Shooting for just under 11:1 compression with a 58cc head!

Im gonna keep my TW heads and i'm considering sending them to TEA for a 185cc cnc port job with an edelbrock rpm 2 intake and an ed curtis custom cam. Also plan for 1 3/4" ceramic LT's and a 75mm TB (rpm 2 inlet may need to be opened up for this)Damn, i'm getting a stiffy just thinking about it Shifts will be no more than 6200rpm.
