Why didn't my 18x9 Saleens fit?!!!

So I was at the tire shop today. We put on the brand new Saleen Replicas 18x9 front and rear. BUT, the fronts were way too wide?! We tried 275/40/18 first, then 275/35/18 next, and 265/35/18 and still looked too wide. It looked ugly as the fronts stuck out more than the rears ! It stuck out just enough that it looked horrible. My 2001 GT is stock height (not lowered), but it seemed like the wheel was actually too wide, even though we checked and it was indeed an 18x9.

Does anyone know what offset their saleen wheels are???? These were 24 I believe. Either way, I am bummed because I need to go on a trip tomorrow and my Goodyears are toast on the stock 17's and will have to just settle with stock tire size if I do not figure this out. Why didn't my 18x9 Saleens fit?!!!

i have 18X9 Saleen replicas and my offset is 24 I believe. My front wheels do stick out more than my rear wheels but I like the look. If you want the rears to stick out as much as the front, you can always get 18X10 rears or get wheel spacers. I personally like how my wheel sticks out, I don't like inner wheel gap much.

Does any one eles have their fronts wider than the rears? Or more specifically, the wheels on the front stick out from the fender? Even with the 265/35/18, mine seemed to stick out a lot. Yes, I could get 18x10 for the rear, but its really the front wheel being wider than the fender that bothers me.

I have the same wheels that you have, my fronts stick out slightly farther than the fender wells, but I thought it was due to using a 275 size tire, I'm sure if I used a 255 it would not stick out.

I think the car stock has the front wheels are rear wheel offset a little so the car will not tramline.

you just notice it more now that you have a 9" rim up front. I got 9" front wheels because 8" was going to be 8 weeks out. I notice the front to back offset more now.

you can run an 8" rim up front or put a small wheel spacer out back. I am not sure if this will make the car tramline more or not as I have not dont it. I don't really mind it.

No offense guys, but those pics suck. Can someshow a pic more like this one..... but from the front.

In this pic you can look down the side of the car and see the edge of the wheel lip and it's location in relation to the wheel/tire combo. BTW - this is my '90 'vert w/ new wheels/tires

i had the same problem when i was running 275/35/18 nittos all around. I didn't like the look but i had already paid for the tires and mounting etc so i lived with it. I recently bought new rims so i went with 8.5 in the front with 255 tires and 9.5 rear with 285 tires and the look is great. The front is flush, and i could get away with a 295 on the rear with no problem......I just think 275 is too wide on the front if you don't want it to stick out.

i'll take a pic when i get home from work.

Here's mine, 18x9 front 18x10 rear. It did look funny when it was stck hieght.. You might just want to put some spacers in the back so the rears match the fronts.. it's not really sticking out that far, it's just the way your perceive it with the rear fender and the stock height.

They're 18x9 245/40/18 Fronts and 18x10 285/35/18's Rear.. the fronts are a little small but they're been great for the past 6 months.
