why do my rockers tick?

yo, I put my gt40p heads on finally and started it up, I noticed it ticks, the old engine used to tick though with these rockers, so is this normal? its not loud or anything just noticeable, dosent do it with stockers on. It runs real good though the heads have made a biiigggg diff in adle quality and all, tomorrow im going for a wot run through 1-4 and see how she does. :SNSign:

Completely normal, mine do it too. I think its the roller on the tip, for some reason they just make that noise.

I'm running the Trick Flow RRs and mine are a bit noisier than I'd like as well.

I'm considering whether I should pull it all back apart (KB and all) to ajust them down another half a turn or just say, "Hell with it" and get used to it.

What ratio, do you mean? I believe that they're all 1.6

You have to go aftermarket (even FMS) for a roller block rocker in a ratio other than that.

Trickflow buys thier roller rockers from Crane and has them anodized a different color. Just in case you 2 fine gentleman didnt know that

actually the ticking comes from when the valve just touches the top of the piston and it is a very light touch dose not damage unless ratio is to large. the ticking is good and maximizes hp if it gets to loud kinda like a thud ur doing damage if it dont make it at all ur losing power

I have the trick flows as well. When the engine cold it sounds like a sewing machine but once she warms up a bit it quiets down a tad.

But yea Ive just gotten used to it, it's not that bad.

the valve should NEVER hit the piston..my buddy built a 496 chevy BB and his valves barely hit the pistons, without his knowledge..which led to a broken intake valve taking out chunks of cylinder wall, bending a rod, and getting lodged sideways in his new 2,000.00 aluminum heads..also the piston gets closer to the valve at higher RPM's..so it will get worse if they touch..(which they shouldent)

sorry I didnt get back to ya guys, yeah I dont think the valves should touch the pistons LOL, but I got all the little bugs worked out, and man does it haul serious!! my t5 is whining real bad now LOL, but thanks for all the help!!

My RR were noisy as hell also. using Track heat 205 heads with Harland sharp 1.6 stud mount RR specially made for TW heads with offset intake RR's. preload was set at 1/4 turn. went to 1/2 turn preload and quited them down a whole lot. much nicer to drive.

also aluminum valve cobers also contribute to RR noise. Try sheet metal VC's they r quieter.
