Why does it die?

When I make a hard stop the motor chokes and after a couple of good pedal pumps, the motor cleans out.

To me it seems like it is flooding out. My first thought was the float bowls were set to high. After checking them, they are set correctly.

Any suggestions?

I had this same problem once with my 78 Mustang II.

I was able to fix it by adjusting the idle mixture.

If you brake really quick and hard, the engine may die due to the torque convertor not unlocking fast enough.

It's a stick so I can eliminate the converter. When I'm braken' I've got the clutch in so it's not like I'm draging the motor down.

It idles at roughly 950rpms.

I could try bumping up the floats. When I checked I looked to see if it was too high and flowing over. I wasn't getting any fuel out of the plug. I'l bump it up tom. until I get a little out of the plug and see how it does.

If it has power brakes, try plugging the line from the intake to the booster and try a hard stop, but make sure you have a lot of space to stop.

Without a baffled chamber, it will eather starve or flood on hard brake or corners. I Set the floats on level ground idling,With the manual trans, 650 rpm
with the sight plug off and adjust float so it has fuel at the lower lip of the hole.
You should see fuel with just a nudge on the frontend.

Got it. It was the seconday float.

I was making a rookie error. The float level onlys changes in the secondary when it's opend enough for the rear 2 barrels to dispence fuel.
