Most of the time as of recent when I try to accelerate slightly in my 1989 mustang, the the gas pedal doesn’t move until I push a little harder, causing the car to over rev around 2500-3000 rpm when I’m at a standstill and makes the car jerky when I’m actually in motion. I cleaned my throttle body and the problem is still persistent. Any tips?

Cable bind? Routing causing bind? I’ve seen improperly routed cables cause bind.

What id do is disconnect the throttle cable from the TB and pull it away from the TB to extend it straight out from the firewall. Manually move the TB blade to see if that’s binding. Also push the accelerator to see if that binds. If it’s clear, route the accelerator cable in a way that doesn’t cause it to bend sharply or kink.

This happened to me, my problem was the "idle adjust screw" on the bottom of the TB was backed out too far, and it was getting stuck shut.

An overlooked issue that can cause the dreaded 'glitch' as I call it, kinda makes ya feel well....dumb! It was my peddle! The holes on the flat part of the peddle that links the floor bracket had worn into a slot and made the pivot off kilter, tried spray lube with little improvement, swapped another from some junk I had at the time and smooth as glass.

Disconnect the cable at the throttle body, move throttle body linkage by hand, if its binding there's you issue, if its not pull the cable and work back to find the cause..

Does anyone make a new accelerator pedal assembly for our cars? I know Team Z makes one but I am talking a stock replacement.

Mine is the opposite my gas pedal travel is nice and smooth but in 5 gear cruising I feather the gas pedal down quickly causing my car to jerk not sure why this happens .
