hey guys what is the widest tire size i can go on a pair of pony wheels on my 88 5.0 Vert. i need new tires but i want a wider tire size then stock, whats the biggest i can go without worring about rubbing? rears only, smaller in the fronts dont bother me at all.
thanks

you can FIT 315/16s on pony wheels, but it look ridiculous (theres a thread around here somewhere with 315s in turbines). Its just a matter of how wide you want to go but keep in mind that a wider tire wont nessisarily mean more traction because too wide of a tire will bulge out and reduce your contact patch.

315's......that might bulge a bit. I had 245/50/16's on my ponies.

I have a 245/50/16 with a 1/4 inch spacer (for my drag radials) and they look great for a street tire.

i think thats probably the best size for stock wheels. The 225s definitly got old fast. Cant say i miss my ponies that much.

so it sounds like 245/50R16 or maybe 255/45R16 might work as well? I'm not looking for anything that would look to crazy on the stock 16's just a little more beef. thanks

You can probably go 275 if you wanted to. The main thing it will rub on is the quad shock. The quad shock is held on by two bolts and comes off easy. just flip it around ther other way so that the wide side is lower that way it won't rub the tire.

think Im gonna do that to mine, was gonna swap my 3 chamber flows for 2 chambers, but think I'll just do dumps instead, then if I have fumes or its not load enough I'll get the 2 chambers and weld the tailpipes back on.

btw- how much loader was it after chopping the tail pipes off?thx

I have 265/55/16 MT ET Streets for my rear tires on Pony rims and they look awesome. (Anything is better than the 10 hole OEM) Fit nice, and look good.
